GW request to Discover denied

I submitted a goodwill requets to Discover Card in order to have numerous reports of late payments removed (30,60 and 90 day reports).

I closed the card a few years ago (when I went on the payment plan) and have been paying the balance down steadily and on time every month for approx 18 months.  I should have the balance completely paid off in a few months.

I submitted a GW request through the online customer service email option.

They first responded that they do not have the ability to change already reported information.  (I knew that was wrong thanks to this forum).

I requested reconsideration and the second response was that they are obligated to only report correct information so they cannot change it.

How far does one pursue a GW request?

I certainly do not want to antagonize but I also want to see if I can actually get some goodwill help here.

Should I mail in a letter even after these two interactions?  Does that work better?

Actually they are right that they are required to report the account as it stands.  Some creditors are just more flexiblethan others to good will requests by consumers.  You say that you have been paying on time for 18 mos?  Take heart in the fact that major delinquencies will be considered minor once they pass the two year mark.

Thanks Brammy.

Looking at my credit report again, I see that my OK payments with Discover go all the way back to September 2005 (and probably a few months further but that is where the timeline ended).

Re: GW request to Discover denied

I sent my GW Letter to the address on my credit report and it was approved within 2 weeks.

Try sending it by mail and see what happens.

Re: GW request to Discover denied

I second that motion - send them another GW letter but via mail and to the Discover address on your credit report.

I just sent them a GW letter 3 weeks ago and received a response letter from them last week stating they are removing the 30 day late.  (I only had 1 late in my 6 year history with them).

GOOD LUCK!
