Had this card for one year,, rarely used. Called yesterday to request increase....DENIED. So I closed the account. $200 limit on a store card GIVE ME A BREAK.
I received my Walmart card @ the same time and have already increased to $800. Walmart gets my business.
Target offered to send an additional 10% off coupon if I kept my account. Might help others with xmas shopping
I would have kept it, even with a small limit.
Target has an ongoing all the time 5% instant discount when you pay with a Target card.
the fact that you rarely use it probably didn't help your case. even people that use their cards a lot have had $200 limits for a really long time.
USAA gave me $2k mastercard My scores are all 725ish........ Target needs a new formula to determine credit limits. FED UP with little limits.
I agree had the card more than 6 mos. called & asked for increase also denied. She had the nerve to tell me to keep it and use it for Xmas shopping, I laughed and told her r u kiddin' me? with a $200 limit. Told her to close it. Next is Orchard. Don't like the annual fee when I have cards with way higher limits & no fees.
I hate it when your credit score increases a lot and your credit limit stays low or won't be increase at all. Good for you to close the target card. I would close my Cap1 card but it's my oldest card and I am saving it until I buy a house. Once I buy my house, I'm closing the Cap1 card and getting a different card.
Why would anyone close a "free" card? And a store card as well.
no annual fee, 5% off shopping- I mean yeah 200 is not a lot, but I really do not do any big ticket shopping at Target but the 5% on what I do buy is nice.
I mean I can understand if you want a credit limit increase to buy an ipad at 5% off, but, free card, no real credit impact of too much credit with a low limit, and a discount on shopping. Im ok with it

As a consumer I will shop where my business is rewarded.
Why should we accept $200 limits from Target while others ( Walmart, Best Buy etc.) have given generous CLIs. as scores improve.
What is your cut-off ?
maybe a $100 credit limit?

Why open a card you don't use? And why keep a card you don't intend to use? IMO, OP made a good decision dropping it.
For me, I opened a Target (good CL) in the spring and used it constantly all summer. I'm keeping mine.
i guess it depends how much you make, & how good you think your scores are. if you are making 6 figures, it probably feels more insulting to have only a $200 limit. but target may not agree with your estimation of your scores, no matter what the numbers are. i have been very lucky to have my CL raised to $1500, which is very good for me, especially considering my reports. having had bad credit for many years, i am much more patient when it comes to having my actions rewarded. i still think that if you are not using the card, there really is no reason for them to raise your CL.
