Getting debt free

Can anyone recommend a good balance transfer credit card. My situation is I have some credit cards with high balances( UT is about 78%) and I would like to get a 0% transfer to bring down the balances faster. My Fico score TU- 708/EQ-726, and I have a great credit history with NO late payments or any negative dings.Everything is great except for the UT. I guess my question is can I still get approved out there with credit tightening like it is.

Re: Getting debt free

Without addressing the abiliy to qualify, I know of the following:

1.  PenFed 2.99% ($100 max BT fee) for life of transfer on Platinum cards (regular APR 13.99)

2.  Addison Avenue 3.99% BT

3.  Juniper Business MC (Barclays) 0% BT for 13 months  (3% BT fee)

4.  BoA 3.99% BT (but charge 3% BT fee)

Re: Getting debt free

Thanks for the info.

With the company Pen Fed do you have to be in the Military? I looked it up and noticed it was for Gov people, and I also need to be careful on who I choose cause I have been denied twice already in the last couple of months and I was willing to try one more for hopes that I would get approved and be on my way to fixing this fun mess I got into. So far my credit score has not been touched but I'm afraid with one more it might hurt a little.

The reason for being denied-  to many open accounts (5 credit cards) with high  UT.

amount totaling over 20,000

No, you don't have to be military or federal government.

You can first join the National Military Families Association --a support group for military families, send a kid to camp, etc.

However, the util and # of inqs that got you denied before will blow you out of the water with PenFed, at least for now.

Yes - it appears that PenFed is more likely to approve applicants with lower UT, even if FICOs are high.  In fact, it appears that most lenders are using high UT to turn people down.

US Bank is offering a 0% for 12 months.

Re: Getting debt free

Kroger 1-2-3 has 2.99% APR on transfers til April 2010, with 3% fee.

Edited to remove:  Plus you get the lovely rewards.  Because evidently that's not the case on BT's.

Just remember that when you use a card for a BT, you don't want to use it for purchases, too! --unless you want those purchases to sit there accruing interest, while all your payments go to the BT. Smiley Surprised

Re: Getting debt free

sorry my'bad - my understanding was that you got rewards on the BT - am I wrong on that??  So go ahead and BT with rewards but don't purchase after BT to avoid accruing interest on the purchases??
