Over the past 10 years and really since they started issuing credit cards in the 90's their risk management system changed to begin setting hard limits on the charge card that they built and billed as a "no limit" card. In fact, it use to be more or less but with new technology and stringent risk practices cardholders can be left in your situation. I still stand by my prediction that the AMEX brand will become part of one of the major banks.....most likely Wells Fargo.
Curious, why Wells Fargo?.

Because the founders of AMEX included some members who split off and formed Wells Fargo in the 19th century.

+1 I would close it as well. I would never tolerate that type of ongoing treatment from a lender.
I echo the view of thers on ending relationships with those, for whatever reason, who don't value my business. I've got many cards SD'ed awaiting closure because of overly sensitive fraud alerts, where I don't even bother calling in to resolve it.
With what you've experienced, I'd likely just close it and move on.
Same thing happened to me when I first got my charge card. Mine would trigger at $4k..would get the suspend email. When I called in the rep said my card was really capped off at $4k and they would like to see multiple payments a month and it will eventually increase. I started making more payments and never had that issue again.
