As with most issuers, you don't get credit for no late payments, that is the standard expectation.  (And should you deviate, then of course they may punish you to varying extents).  They are instead focusing on other aspects  of your credit report (and whatever else they have access to) and determine that there is an increased risk.   That doesn't mean that you are certain or even slightly likely to default in some way, they just want to reduce their perceived risk.   And yes, I understand that even though "it's just business" doesn't do anything to reduce your irritation/anger/murderous rage (delete those that do not apply!) it does mean you can focus on applicable responses, which are mainly to continue to do business, reduce your level of spend with them, or cut them off completely, understanding that unless you are a really significant customer, your response matters only to you and not to them.

Did AmEx formally impose a hard spending limit/cap ?

OR

are you saying you were only approved spending purchase of 5k where previously the tool displayed you would be approved for 15k (for example)?

Formally imposed a cap.

this is totally different than spending power.  if amex capped me out of the blue I would sure want to find out why rather than rolling out the blame game and actually thinking they care about you because we are all just #s to them...or dropping a bunch of cards in a huff.  credit shifts on the part of a lender generally dont happen at random, you might want to drill into your profile a bit and see what the real reason(s) are.  imo

Here's a question. Put the points of $6000/month spend on Platinum or the Hilton Aspire? We use Platinum for cruises and the occasional FHR stay.

But we love Hilton.

util or anything out of the norm could trigger it.  you sound solid enough, I would lose any af account you dont use and keep the rest.  cannot help on your query, the only thing I pretty much use on ax is a old biz gold to get the $3k yearly dell credit.  I tend to use chase products.

BUt...but they made me feel so special with all their sweet talk! Smiley Sad  lol. I understand that as well. But, at the end of the day, I know the average credit card user tries to play the game, works hard to keep a clean credit history, and can still get the cold shoulder. It is a cruel world. But, I want people to know that we have power too. We can walk with our feet. There are tons of options out there. If you feel better by ditching your abusive partner, then do so! Smiley Wink

But seriously, it is what it is.

Yeah. I moved over to chase with the CSR and then the CFU. IHG is nice for Kimptons. ANd then there is Amazon for AMazon and Whole Foods. I convinced my wife to let go of the Platinum. We will keep the Aspire though.

Re: Goodbye AMEX Platinum Forever

IHGwas nice for kimptons...I am still kind of pissed they did that to the anniversary night.  most people I know forget to use the darn night.  not really happy about the csr either, I dont do delivery and I seldom use ride shares.  I think they should make the credit $ 400, then I have no problem.  its only 100, easy enough to blow that on the restaurant of the moment in LA.  as you would say it is what it is.  have a good weekend, be safe
