Last night I logged in, after having the account for less than a week, and says I have no accounts available for access. I called on last Friday to discuss this possibility (after reading about similar circumstances on here) and the CSR told me that that wouldnt happen, as I had nothing to worry about. On Friday, I also added my wife to the account (she is active duty air force). I set up the account on Thursday, and told the CSR at the time that I wasnt the military member, and she said, "no problem, just add your wife at some point later".
Now, they had been so nice, the 4 other times I had called about other things, and after calling last night, and spending 45 minutes on the phone with them, they seemed annoyed with me. Also, nothing was progressed from the phone call. She couldnt speak to me anymore about the account until my wife talked to her, and confirmed her information. Once she did, all she said was she couldnt do anything at this point and that we would need to go into a branch (not a huge ordeal, but closest one is about 25 minutes away) My wife can easily be gone for 14 hours each day, so going in together, is rather difficult. I'll keep this updated, but just wanted to reiterate that they will freeze your account fairly quickly if you do not have proper information at the time of enrollment.
I'm not worried as all inforation I have given them, was litigimate, but now just having something else on my plate to handle, along with regular other "life" circumstances
Sorry to hear but with those credit lines this is a fight worth dealing with.
oh yes i agree!
plus for future relationship with them (home loan) though my wife seems very set on USAA, which has also been great to us for the past 10 years.
I wish the CSR on Friday would have been more ahead of the game though, as I was trying to do anything possible to not have an account freeze, i am glad I waited on putting money into the account, just incase this happened.
As i said though, I am not worried about them not unfreezing, its just now the process of being required to go into a branch. Which i also completely understand.
I just want to reiterate to others, that this will happen if not all your t's are crossed, and i's dotted
The lady who I just spoke to actually said it has nothing to do with my wife, its me. So I need to go into a branch with my original SS card, government issued ID, and proof of address. I'm assuming this is possibly just because of the line of credits I was given?

It's important to remember that the MSR taking your membership application has no control over whether your account is frozen or not so any reassurances given at the time of the application are meaningless. Most freezes happen because something doesn't match up. It could be something on your report, something could have been mispelled down the line which was cause for concern. I always tell people that if they are eligible through a spouse, have the spouse apply first. That way they are in the system and there is less of a need to verify information. They would know the spouse is already good to go, and so should you. That's not your fault though. It's just part of the process.

I will add one other thing. I've seen a lot of people get their accounts frozen this month. It's almost definitely because of their current membership promotion and the fraud associated with any promotion of that scale. This is not directed at OP but people need to have some perspective. In any business, if there is a hightened risk for fraud, you have to expect them to be more vigiliant to avoid losses down the line. Again, not directed at OP at all. I just thought it may be relevant for future comments on this thread
Thank you for the feedback and responses. Yes, I do believe it would have been better to have her on the account first, that was my intention, I called as there was a problem with doing it online, and thats when the lady who set up my account, told me it was fine to do me first, then add my wife. So....now i know
I actually didnt know there were any promotions this month, i'll look into that.
UPDATE:
Process was painless. Got off work, picked up my wife and 3 kids and drove the 30 miles to the closest branch. They were extremely nice, even had home baked cookies for the kids
Took about 25 minutes, and they unfroze accounts, and verified everything. They needed "proof of field of membership" mainly, but also needed proof of address, and government issued ID, and actual SS card.
legal brother or pretend brother?
