Hello - Three weeks ago I got locked out of my HSBC Discover card after I used it out of state then could not answer the security questions that did nto pertain to me. Still trying to clear that mess up. After faxing HSBC everthing but a DNA sample, the block was removed last Thursday. In the mean time, I had decided that I was through with HSBC although this particular card was the first real card that I got three years ago after years of credit abuse. They stared me with a $1200. or CL, but as I I had gotten approved for two more HSBC cards, I combined them until my CL was $2100.00 -WOW a big deal for me at the time - even now, really. When HSBC hit many people with a significant CLD, mine was hit for a mere $110.00. My CL has been $1990 for 2.5 years now.
So, because I was pissed at HSBC, I thought I would try for a traditional Discover Card - not expecting to get it, and I didnt, but they called me today to say that I was approved for the HSBC card. I explained that I did not want anything to do with HSBC and was looking to close the one that I have, now that I have transferred my balance to my Capital One Card. Then I got to thinking that I could just transfer the CL like I did in the past and get a higher utilization. I just checked and the new card has a $750.00 CL, but a $39.00 AF - But it is a rewards card, not that I will get 39.00 a year in rewards - Who knows.
On the one hand, I am thinking about just combining the CLs -If I do, then I will have just one major CC with under a $2000.00 CL. Then again, I am thinking that it might be nice to just keep the lower limit card in my wallet as my primary card. and just pretty much sock drawer the other one. I have a M/C with them, which I am definately paying off and not ever using again. I will just let it sit there until they close it. I should say that once I pay off the $1000 on the HSBC M/C - I will not be concerned about utilization as I just got two $1500.00 CLI from Capital One on my MC (I have no idea why) - This $750.00 card, and Pay Pal -after two years of denying me - finally gave me $125.00 CLI on my PayPal Credit Card. I have too many major credit cards, but I only physically possess the Discover as I just make payments on the other 4.
