My husband has 2 cc with HSBC. Can these 2 cc be merged in to one account? Does it affect credit score if you do merge them?
If the resultant CL were to be over 10k and that was your highest limit, that would help, also:
I would check the age of each card. If one was old and one was new, that would maximize any possible gain based on the age of the accounts as long as your merge the newer card onto the older card keeping the history of the older card.
I have no experience merging HSBC and I don't recall hearing it, but I would definately try the back door number and see if it could be done, assuming you decide to try doing it.
A third question you might have is if that may/may not be good to do with this credit environment. With so many people having their limit chopped, a higher limit might (?) might send a flag that results in a future limit decrease. Cards, especially Chases, are SO grouped where one (providian) is treated like absolute crap, and another (an original Chase) is left alone. There's countless Chase holders that have seen this that have both Providian>WaMu>Chase, WaMu>Chase and have another Chase original that have had one card touched, and the other one not touched. Be good to hear what other say.
If I had it, Id probably risk it based on what they would see in my credit file.
