you should really check out www.financeglobe.com/scorematch and see the cards you may be eligible for based on your FICO scores

I did check financeglobe and my mistake was the Amex costco came up first then the blue and then the prefer blue card. I should have tried for the costco card.
Oh well I'll call them tomorrow and will report back.

Well in light of the situation it's good you didn't apply for the Costco Card if you don't have membership with them but I'm pretty sure when you call them tomorrow and just explain that you applied for the preferred one because you really like the rewards a lot and don't mind paying the annual fee. Tell them how you would like to make Amex the primary card to use for all your purchases and by giving you a shot they wouldn't regret it.
