I share your frustration with Wells Fargo. I am done with the big banks. Moving my banking activity to local credit unions. We have to stop getting to attached to lending institutions.
I hate WF aswell, sadly my mom, dad and DS bank with them. My parents have been customers since 2002 yet they CLD her $3000 CL to $1000 for making two cash advances when she paid them in full. Last time I went to the bank with my DS the banker asked me if i wanted to open a teen acct. and I was like "ummm no thank you" and walked away before they began to give their useless speeches. Your not alone creditaddict!
I have heard they are pretty bad with loyalty towards their customers.
How long was the account inactive?
I'll be the lone disenter for WFB. I have their traditional banking & various lending products - never any AA or any issues and relationship dates back to late 90's. Of course, their CCs have somewhat lackluster rewards, but overall not bad...YEMV. Plenty of banking choices out there if WFB is not working out for you.
I've been banking with WF since '91 and haven't had any problems with them either, but I agree their credit cards leave a lot to be desired. I have a WF Visa that I keep since its my second to oldest card, but after I paid off the balance, I now just have one of my bills autopaid from it every month. I don't use the card at all other than that. I kick myself occasionally for not switching to a rewards-type credit card earlier instead of putting so much money through the WF card, but oh well.
I agree, I am a Wachovia convert to WF and havn't had any issues with them. They started me off with a little credit line, but it has grown slow but steady over the 2 years I've had it to $1400. The rewards are subpar so I don't use it except for one small auto paid bill but I call every 6 months and always manage a smallish soft pull cli out of them. Love thir customer service. I always get a polite well trained associate.
They also gave me a $8700 line for home improvements that I financed a tankless hot water heater on for 0% for 24 months. No complaints with Wells here.

I stated in past in personal and business threads my hatred with Wells but my partner has been with them since like 1998.
We'll 2 months ago they CLD his $8600 personal card open from 2002 to $2000.
Last month they closed it for inactivity
I called credit dept and exec office today and was told that once it's closed it's final and I was welcome to reapply.
I said that would be a new account which would hurt me, this account has been open since 2002!
Julie in exec office was very mono tone cold that they decided "not to lend anymore and account was closed and there was nothing that she could do"
The statement "not to lend" burns me because he still has unsecured credit line for$16,200 and business credit card for $3500.
Mind you we don't use y f these 3 products and I wouldn't use the credit card but yet it was super old and he does all his banking with them I just would have thought they might have cared even 5%
What are your balances with Wells Fargo?
I personally haven't any issues with them yet. They were the first to give me an unsecured card when i didn't even have a SSN back then, and the CL has went up steadily over the years. What I noticed is that they're very big on relationships, to the extent a "bad" relationship can even affect services in other divisions. When I had a sizable amount of deposits with them, everything was pretty much easygoing and somewhat flexible. However, as I had moved my deposits to Chase and Citi, I did notice the change in level of service with Wells Fargo. I asked for a SP CLI on my credit card, and was given very little. Had to talk to an underwriter / analyst at the credit department, and the main reason cited was that my account balances in my checkings and savings in the past few months are low (I have about 1k in total with them. Just keeping it there to pay for my WF credit card). Went back and forth about it, and they were able to increase it by a little more, but still not much.
I can't blame them though. I don't use the card much (which he also pointed out), and I am no longer as profitable of a customer to them. It's not like they did me a great disservice either. If I took my deposits out of Chase or Citi, they may very well start being less generous to me as well.
Overall I think they're still a good bank to deal with, just that like any major banking institutions, they care more about the monetary aspects of things, rather than "real relationships". For that, one should probably talk to a CU instead.
