Hello my FICO I am planning a trip to Hawaii and I was wondering if the Hawaiian airlines card would be a good choice, and what pros and cons are there to getting it.
I'm showing that there's a SUB of 60,000 HawaiianMiles after you spend $2,000 on the card in the first 90 days so unless you plan to be regular travelers to the islands it might be best to get the card a few months in advance then do the spend for the points. They could go a long ways towards your flights. Otherwise it seems to get 2 HawaiianMiles back per dollar on gas, dining and grocery stores and 1 mile per dollar on everything else. Doesn't seem to offer any benefits for spending specifically in Hawaii or anything else so I'd imagine it's more of a card for those who fly that airline often.

I don’t know where you live or if you’re traveling with someone, but you could also look into the Alaska Airlines card by BofA. The companion fare alone makes the card very valuable, so we actually have 2 cards. A trip to Hawaii from the East Coast can easily cost $800 or more, and I can use the companion fare with stopovers to visit more than 1 place. Not sure if it’d work for you, but it’s worth mentioning.
Seconded as I have been researching these two cards. I will probably go for the BofA Alaska Card. Please note, it seems to be a tough approval from BofA vs Barclays (Hawaiian Airlines).
I recently obtained this card. Only reason I got it was to use the points to upgrade my cabin flight to first class.
I personally don't think the Hawaiian card is worth keeping after using the bonus unless you frequently use Hawaiian Air. A one-way first class from Bos-Oahu is 650ish main cabin...4.1K ish for first class. I used 50K/60K to upgrade to first class which is well worth the 11hr trip, then transferred the remaining 10K to my Jetblue trueblue account.
I do plan on canceling the card at 11 months.

I just looked into this card for a posting I did yesterday on another thread.
For someone who flies Hawaiian Airlines frequently, it's a great card.
For others, possibly not worth keeping.
There are a lot of SUBs on other cards that would also help you on a trip to Hawaii.
All the major legacy airlines fly there and even Southwest just started service this year.
The Sign Up Bonus (SUB) worth $540* right now for the Barclay's Hawaiian Airlines card.
(60K miles for spending $2K in 90 days.)
*The Points Guy website estimates Hawaiian Miles are worth 0.9 cents per mile.
AF = $99
The card waives checked baggage charges equivalent to $25 to $30 per flight. A few checked bags a year adds up.
Also, if you are a member of the Hawaiian Miles program, you get 3x the miles for all your trips you charge on the card versus 1x mile without.
And you get discounts on Companion Travel:
Receive a one-time 50% off companion discount
for roundtrip travel between Hawaii and North America on Hawaiian Airlines.
$100 companion discount annually
for roundtrip travel between Hawaii and North America on Hawaiian Airlines after each account anniversary.
*So one annual companion trip could pay for the annual fee and then you're getting extra value back on the other benefits above.

I agree that if you don't fly HA often, it's essentially a one use card.
I guess if you have an easy $2K spend coming up, don't mind a HP, new account and paying $99 for a $500ish (west coast) flight to Hawaii. Go for it!

@SEAlifer I noticed that our signatures are pretty much the same, except I didn't add my card yet. I have the same three main cards as you do, the Capital One platinum, Discover It, Chase Freedom, the only difference is I have the Rose Gold AmEx. I will put them up once I figure out how to put my cards in the signature.
