I would disagree about low earning 1.50x, 3x and 4.50x is pretty good for general spend, gas and 6k of grocery. Gold is just better now.
The 1.5x for general spend is not noteworthy compared to competitors' cards, nor is the 3x for gas. The 4.5x for groceries is about the same as the Blue Cash Preferred (6% less the $95 annual fee is about 4.4% ... but EDP also has an annual fee). The big difference is that Blue Cash Preferred doesn't require you to make 30 swipes per month. I agree that Gold is better.
Add on bonus transfers such as 40% Avios make it much better than the competitors. So the BCP isn’t even close to the EDP 4.50 or gold 4x.
I'd already decided I was done with the EDP when the new Gold was announced and that kinda cemented the deal for me.
I did keep it, though, as a downgraded ED. 1.2x is still better than 1x.

Even 20 swipes is a swipes is a stretch for my with gold improvements.

My office break room vending machines take credit cards. Swipe count has never been a problem for me.
That said, I have noticed Amex has started consolidating swipes for the same vendor on the same day. I used to bulk up my swipe count at self checkout, but that doesn't seem to be working anymore.
