Hello - I have a problem with gasoline cards!

And I don't even drive all that much.

Hello - I just wanted to say hi, and this looks like a great board.  I have already learned a lot.

I have a weird fetish for wanting gasoline cards.  To my credit, I only have one - a Texaco (Chevron) card.   I don't know why I get a weird craving to obtain more and more gasoline cards since I don't even drive a lot.  Please tell me I don't need more gasoline cards.  I already have a dozen cards (again, store and major issuers, not gas) more or less and I'm trying to hold steady / cut down / pay off / shift to lower interest.  Gas cards normally aren't low interest and all you can buy is gas.

Anyway, that was not important, just part of my "hello."  I saw someone's Shell card listed and it brought it all back for me - I think maybe my first experience with building credit was that I read that gas cards are easy to get so it takes me back in time.  OK, enough of that - hi, and hope I didn't post this in the wrong place.  To make it relevant, what gas card does anyone think might be the easiest to get, other than Tex/Chevron.  THANKS!

Re: Hello - I have a problem with gasoline cards!

Hi Chester and welcome to the forums.

Let me start off by stating, no you dont need a gas card. lol

Now that is done, you should no longer want a gas card lol.

i do have the exxonmobil citibank visa card because of its rewards. 30 cents off for the first 60 days and 15 cents off forever. i have alot of mobil gas stations around my way and they have pretty much the same rate that everyone else has. i am in New York. With 15 cents off, that is pretty good. It is also a visa card so i can get cash back rewards as well, if i was to use it for any other purchases. At a certain tier, i start to receive 2% cash back. i have a chase freedom plus card, so i only use the mobil card for gas. The cents off is actually better than the 3% cash back on gas with the chase card right now.

I do think though it is not an easy card to ge compared to other gas cards that are out there. YMMV

hope this helps and welcome again

Re: Hello - I have a problem with gasoline cards!

Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the input.

I have a lot of credit but it's only mid-grade (fair) so there's no way Citibank would want much, if anything, to do with me (tried and got shot down, and that was with better scores.)

But I'll keep it in mind for the future!  I always like to learn about fair credit, good credit, and excellent credit options, so that when I get there, I'll know what to go for first!

Texaco raised my CL from 800 to 1000 just because I hit the "fetish button" (otherwise known as the "luv button.")

Like I need to buy a thousand dollars' worth of gas.  Smiley Happy

Maybe you could buy a ton of stuff in the store too - you can't have enough chips and beef jerky, right? :smileytongue:

But yea, I know what you mean - my BP card has a limit of $1200 and I didn't even have to hit a luv button for that. Oh well, it's nice to know I won't be having high util on that card anytime soon...
