Did OP at least end AU privileges?

Good Question. I ended the AU privileges for the abuser only.

Is the abuser doing anything to make things right?

Have they given you any money? $7K is a lot of change!

I literally haven't received a cent. Right now, I'm cutting back on my spending until I pay my cc debt down to around $1500.

Wow...  Have you considered taking them to court?

Why not?! Is it someone playing you, a relative where direct conflict can't be done, or what?

Re: Help: What's the best PayOff Strategy?

pi- and drkaje,

It's a relative, I wouldn't be able to do it and that idea never entered my mind. This situation is my fault. I obviously extended credit to an irresponsible person and to someone who's consideration for others isn't very high. I'm not going to make that mistake again.

Sorry.

I'd still have to lay the smack down.

If another $7K in debt were the goal I'd buy a new Les Paul, LOL!

Agreed.  My first thought when someone needs a cosigner is "why do they need one in teh first place?  Because they don't pay their debts?"

Maybe it would be better if you offered to coach people on improving their own credit instead of putting yours at risk.  Sounds like someone really took advantage of your generosity.

Re: Help: What's the best PayOff Strategy?

UPDATE

At this very moment my Cap 1 card is at a $0.00 balance. It's been this way for a couple of months. My Chase balance is currently sitting at $449.39. My amex which I had paid off to $0.00 has increased and currently sits at $757.00 (this is new debt that took place about two months ago, the debt is entirely acquired by the last remaining AU on my account but, I feel confident this AU will pay off it's own debt).

I have a total of 7 cards.

Amex

Ann Taylor

Cap 1

Chase

Dell

Express

Gap

5 out of 7 has a $0.00 balance. My store cards I never carry a balance on and I have no AU's on my store credit cards.

I'd be monitoring that last account with an AU like a hawk.
