Help with establishing credit please.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find it. I need to establish my credit. I have a 698 score for TransUnion and no score for the other 2. This is obviously due to only having a couple student loan accounts open, that are only reporting to transunion. Can someone give me a list of credit cards that only pull TU please? I tried applying a couple months ago to a few cards that I thought were good deals, even a JCPenny card, but got declined for the same reason on all (no credit profile). Thanks so much for any help!! Re: Help with establishing credit please.

Hey Texx.  Welcome to the forums.

I can give you two different CCCs that pull TU.

WaMu (Washington Mutual) but beware they declined me for not having any recent CC history.  The reason I am telling you this is so you don't take a hard inq. for no reason.

Hooters seems to pull TU frequently from what I have heard.  Their website says that one of their CC rewards is "credit building opportunities".  That statement would lead me to believe that they are a little more lenient toward people with little or no credit.

If I were in your shoes I would try for the Hooters card.  Just my opinion.  Hope this helps.Smiley Wink

Good Luck!

As far as I know, Juniper Bank/Barclay's only pulls from TU, at least 99% of the time. Might be best to start with a US Airways Dividend Miles Mastercard or a Carnival Sea Miles Mastercard. They seem to be easier to obtain. They do report to all three CB so that should help you establish a credit file at the others. Just keep your utils as low as you can. Most (not all) credit unions use EQ so you don't want to go there. Maybe some other people have better suggestions.

From what I understand, Walmart Discover may pull TU?

They pulled EQ on me and DW last week in Washington state. BTW: They gave me a $2500 CL and DW got $3000 credit line. Kinda irritates me since my score is 18 points higher than hers at EQ.

After all of the crud fell off my reports my file was super thin like yours. Others have recommended a couple of CUs and this might work for you. Do you have an established relationship with a bank or CU in your area. If yes, talk with them. This worked for me when I couldn't get CCs. My bank approved me for an unsecured Visa probably because I had money in two accounts, never bounced a check and so forth. Of course there are no guarantees but your bank or CU knows you a lot better than some CCC from far away using a computer to approve or turn down you.
