I am one of minority here who does not believe in bucket thingy.
I dont think I had fico scores when I received the first Cap1 card 18 months ago. I was out of credit scene for multiple decades and fico scores poped up 6 mths later.
QS one @1000 to 4000 to 9000. Soon it will be another 6 mths, and I expect some CLI as well.
Sometime during that period, it was changed to QS but still I see platinum somewhere on the web page. And whatever the reason, I dont think I was in the credit steps or maybe I did not know. Cap1 also gave me 15k venture at a year mark.
There are lots of data points here supporting the bucket thingy. Some cardholders manage to avoid that, though. I'd submit that when receiving a Capital One card with a three-digit limit, expect to be bucketed and be pleasantly surprised if you're not.
