Horror. Barclays UPDATE: Bonus SAVED! Yippie!

I didn't expect Barclays to renege on their signup bonus offer right off the bat, especially for a brand new customer who was excited to get his card:

DaveSignal via CSS Web
Hello. I am awaiting the new Barclaycard that I was recently approved for to come in the mail at my foreign address. I expect to have it later this week. I do have a question about the 20,000 mile sign-up bonus that was offered when I applied for the card. I was just reading the rewards disclosure document, since I am able to login to this website even before I have my card, and I don't see anything there mentioning the 20,000 miles. Could you please clarify how this offer works for my card?

Response from Customer Service
Dear DaveSignal :

Thank you for contacting us regarding your Barclaycard Arrival World MasterCard. Welcome to the BarclaycardUS family of credit cards! We can certainly address your inquiry regarding the rewards on your account.

Please be advised that you will be awarded with 5,000 bonus miles for the first use of the card and another 5,000 bonus miles after spending $750 within the first 90 days from the account open date. Please be reminded that the 20,000 bonus miles is only applicable to accounts with an annual fee.

We apologize for the confusion, and hope that we have been able to clarify the situation. If you have any other questions and concerns, please reply to this message.

Sincerely,

Customer Service

The offer when I applied was for 20,000 miles with no annual fee. It is still being offered, this is what I applied for:
http://www.barclaycardarrival.com/travel/?campaignId=1729&od=bcarrival&cellNumber=24
This is the main reason that I applied for the card, because I was offered 20,000 miles with no annual fee.
I think there is a mistake. Can you please fix whatever issue has occurred with my account? thank you.

DaveSignal via CSS Web

I have been talking to CSRs over the phone and have now realized the issue: Because I had trouble finishing the online application when applying, due to my phone number being international, I followed the application directive that states "Problems? Call 1-800-307-0341 to apply." I then finished my application over the phone. It was never explained to me that I was forfeiting half of my bonus by calling that number. I never would have called. I am sorry for calling. I was then told that if I applied for another Barclaycard Arrival online, that I could combine the credit lines and get my full bonus back. So I filled out an application for the same card that I was approved for, but using the web form (since my phone number is international, I just omitted the country code). The only problem is that, upon submitting my online application, I am getting this message:
"You've already
submitted an application.
Our records indicate that you have already submitted 1 application(s) in the past 30 days.

Please do not submit another application. Information about the status of your previous application(s) will
be mailed to you by the bank as soon as possible."

I am a bit sad and upset that I lost my bonus and am determined to get it back. If a second application is needed to get the 20,000 bonus, please do what you need to do to put this application through. Thank you.

So that's the story.  I lost my sign-up bonus.  Now I am trying to get it back.  I have been talking to people on the phone as well as sending secure messages.  This is a huge ordeal.   Barclays has not yet offered anything helpful, short of re-applying for the card, which I tried, but got a duplicate application message.  I was so excited to start using this card, and now I am disheartened that they did this to me.  I am debating the possibility of applying for a different card with a good signup bonus, no ForEx, and a restaurant bonus.... maybe CSP.

I'm sorry that happened, Dave.

...by all means, keep up the good fight and try to hold them to their offer.

It may not hurt to let them know about how many of us are watching...

Re: Horror. Barclays reneged on bonus!

I have a feeling that they will make things right somehow.  If I have to take another inquiry, so be it, I don't have anything else big to apply for anytime soon.  I just didn't expect it, and it is bothering me thinking about it...  the Barclays would be such a perfect card for me.... and now I am tentative to even activate it, since I have realized that they took back their big offer.... who knows what else they will take back.  Maybe I will save up a hefty amount of miles and then they will decide that they don't want to do the miles program for all cardholders anymore and I will just login to the website and half of my miles will vanish!

I had actually even put Barclays on my card spreadsheet already and was already tracking which of my favorite places offer the more rewards mall points than my other cards.... i guess maybe it was not meant to be.  Maybe it is a sign that I need to look for a better card.

Glad it worked out in your favor Dave

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

Re: Horror. Barclays UPDATE: Bonus SAVED! Yippie!

Thanks!  I am happy.   It did take 2 phone calls and 3 secure messages to fix this issue.  I was worried it would take more time and a new inquiry on my credit report, but it did not.  Thankfully, Barclays ultimately made it right and I have the opportunity to get the bonus that I expected for the no-AF world mastercard, which will be a frequently used card for me.  Smiley Happy

Re: Horror. Barclays UPDATE: Bonus SAVED! Yippie!

It looks like they may have eaten my signup bonus right off the bat as well, though mine was a much smaller bonus and on a different card (BarclayCard Rewards for average credit).

It has been over a month since I made my first purchase and paid in full, and I don't see these 2500 bonus points I was supposed to get after making my first purchase. I just wanted to make sure I didn't fall into a crack somewhere and miss out. Smiley Happy

Thanks for your time,
Frank

The application I filled out said that applicants who are approved for the Barclaycard Rewards MasterCard will receive 2,500 bonus points after the first use of the account for a Purchase or Balance Transfer. It's only $25 worth of points and not exactly a big deal, but I'm a little confused as to why the bonus points don't apply to my account.

Thanks,
Frank

There was never an offer sent to me, nor were there any documents that I could have possibly made copies of. Even if there were, I wouldn't have thought to make copies because I would have believed that a company would honor it's own offers that it has in writing.

When I applied I simply used Google to search for the link: "barclaycard rewards average credit". That brought me to this page: https://www.barclaycardus.com/apply/Landing.action?campaignId=1655&cellNumber=4&

The page still shows the 2,500 bonus points like it did when I applied; it's rather unfortunate that the page wasn't truthful. Disappointing, but like I said it's only $25. It's really no big deal if you need it more than I do, I was just wondering why it was taking so long to appear.
