Hospital cafeterias coding as restaurants?

Im curious to know if other people ate at hospital cafeterias and it coded the purchase as the restaurant category. I recently bought food at Aurora St. Luke's hospital cafe in Milwaukee, WI and used the Citi Double Cash card because I didn't think it would qualify as a restaurant but it did. I could have gotten tten 5% on the Custom Cash!

Re: Hospital cafeterias coding as restaurants?

Of the 4 hospital categerias I have bought food from, 3 counted as restaurants. The fourth was a VA hospital and it coded as something like miscellaneous government services.

Good question, @IcyCool7227

I have a family member who has been hospitalized several times this year and I've been to visit.  My cafeteria visits have been coded as "restaurant" which has helped out, since I used some of my "dining out" category cards to pay! Smiley Very Happy

With hospital cafeterias, @ptatohed, I guess YMMV.   I suppose I've seen some that were relatively expensive for what they offered.  My recent experience with family members in-and-out of hospital is that they generally offer good quality food at modest prices.  No, it's not usually "cheap" but it's reasonable IMO and worth the inconvenience of having to leave the property, especially in larger cities.

It's funny that you mention this because it reminds me of what some might consider an amusing story.  My in-laws lived in a small southern town, and the hospital cafeteria was such a good value that some locals went there to eat even when they weren't visiting!! Lol  Smiley LOL

Wow, I never would have guessed. It makes sense though. Good tip!

By the way, Larry David must have been on this early. I remember seeing him having lunch at the hospital cafeteria in Curb Your Enthusiasm (when he had no other business at the hospital), and I couldn’t fathom it.
