I'm in the same boat. But after reading this I think I'm going to leave my Capital One at home. Don't use it any more since I get better rewards with my other cards. It's still synced as my main card for some online accounts like Uber, Lyft, and Google Play so it'll get use every once in a while from that. But I guess I can be a little paranoid about not having a card if I lose my wallet so having one at home in case of emergency sounds like a solid plan.

Its not worth lugging them all around. I used to do that and I'd spend five minutes at the register trying to pull the correct card out of my wallet since everything was jammed in there. I have certain cards that I know I will not need in my daily life and those sit in the SD until I need them for a trip or for some specialized purchase.
Yeah you don't want to be "that guy" flipping through your deck of credit cards like you're showing off how bougie you are while people behind you sigh with impatience.
Or maybe you do... I don't know...
I have 6 but only carry my NFCU GORewards because I am trying to reach the 90 day reward limit, that and my NFCU debit card. Once I get that bonus I will probably rotate between my AMEX BCE for rewards and BoA Americard for the low interest.
I use my checkbook for that.

You don't see checkbooks very often in the stores now. If I am at the store and I see someone pull out change and start counting I switch lines though.
I think it's prudent to carry the card you intend to use plus a backup. I'm carrying more than that to take advantage of either limits or rewards. I plan to get an iPhone soon. At that point, I'll be able to use Apple Pay and more cards can stay home.
I have a debit card that I've never used. It's there for emergency cash. If I don't use it, it can't get skimmed. If my wallet is lost or stolen, I'm likely to be able to report the debit card missing before someone figures out the PIN. It can't replace a credit card anyway as its cash withdrawl limit is only $1,000 per day.
Cash takes up too much wallet space, so I can't see carryiing enough of it to be an option to a credit card. I never carry coins any longer than it takes to get some in change and empty them into a ziplock bag at home. The coin exception is that I have a few bucks in quarters in each car just in case I need to put air in the tires.
I haven't written a check in at least four years. I think I have one or two somewhere in the house, but I've lost track of them.

I am new to this forum.
I currently have four major cards, one from each network (Chase FU $56,500, Cap One Quicksilver MC $32,000, Discover $21,500, and AMEX BCP $30,000.
I was carrying all four in my wallet, but I felt uncomfortable, so I cut back to two, Cap One MC (1.5% on everything) and AMEX BCP (6% groceries and 3% gas). These categories are my main spend. I am retired.
My question: Is AMEX and Mastercard enough acceptance coverage (I never go outside U.S), or should I carry a third card (Visa or Discover) in case somewhere does not
take AMEX and the Mastercard doesn't work, for some reason?
I don't mean to be paranoid, but what do others think??
Thanks !!
As long as you don't plan on going to Costco, you should be golden. You're even set for a latte at the Capital One Cafe
I keep all my cards in my wallet, and $300 cash hidden in it, just in case... (The $300 hasn't been in circulation for over 10 years.)
