How and when to ask Capital One for PC?

I am interested in doing a PC from my Platinum card to a QS or QS1. I have had both my Platinum and my QS1 less than a month. I spend heavily on the QS1 because I am working towards showing that I need a CLI. I have not spent any on the Platinum because it has no rewards program. When and how would be the best time to ask for a product change? I realize that it is probably way too early to do so, but how long should I wait before asking? And how do I start the conversation? Do I use the words "product change" or do most people just say something like change or convert. If I could get them both changed to something with no AF and cash back rewards it would be great. What should I shoot for??

The best thing I can tell you is to try chat and ask often. I asked for PC at least 5x before I finally got one the other day - PC from Platinum to VentureOne. Even during the chat yesterday they told me just to go check my account under the Modify Features tab and I told them that part must be broken because it never changes. I always get the "if an offer is ever available you'll see it there" answer but this time I was transferred to another rep who then told me they would be able to PC to VentureOne. I'm not going to even use the card but it was a card I opened to help boost my credit and I just didn't want to have an AF on a card I don't care for. I'll buy a stick of gum every three months and forget about it now.

Total Credit: $96,000. Total Utilization: 4%
[[Starting Score (10/2014): EQ: 674 | EX: 680 | TU: 745]] | [[Current Score (02/2020): EQ: 808 | EX: ??? | TU: 778]] | [[Goal Score: 800 Club]]

Here's a suggestion:

I believe your Plat card (as well as the QS1) is enrolled in the credit steps program. Make some small charges each month on the Plat for the first 4-5 months. Get the credit jump benefit from credit steps. My $500 card became $2,000. Get some useful limit. Then you could go online (chat or secure message) and ask for a conversion to a reward card. If your Plat came with 0 AF, you should be able to convert it to a QuickSilver (0 AF) as I (and many others on this forum) did.

I say 6 months because (1) it gives it some legit backing, i.e. you tried using the card, you love Cap One, and now you want some rewards; (2) get the credit steps benefit without tinkering with the system - it may still work but you never know with them; and (3) you might eventually have to knock the exec office door and you want to show them that you were patient and did try the regular routes.

After 6 months, if the chat or secure message doesn't work then contact exec office through email or social network.

agreed. keep using your cards and pif, maximize your credit steps. and check modify features (which never works) and chat reps. at one point i was asking everyday just to get someone who could help me. shoot for qs, same card no AF. closed an AF card cause they wouldnt pc me though my relentless persistence. current af total: $0. get it!
