As always, don't rely on preapprovals. They are not a guarantee and they are just marketing. Don't let offers decide the cards that you consider. Use your needs/wants. If you want to assess your own credit then learn about the factors used to assess credit and how your own reports stack up.

Incorrect though that seems to be a common assumption around here. I have never been prequalified for any of the cards that I currently hold and several were issued with $25K and higher limits and my scores go over and under the 800 line depending on what I've been doing. Again, do not rely on prequals or other offers. They are just marketing. They are only as accurate as whenever the SP was pulled and you have no idea when that happend or what changed with your credit since then.
I can understand that some think that prequals are an indicator of their credit health but, again, I recommend reading up and learning to assess your own credit versus relying on the marketing departments of the creditors.
