well i don't really sock drawer my card, but the ones I don't use are linked to monthly subscriptions like hulu, netflix, and por.... ahem. that way all my cards gets used. No matter what I don't think I'd close my capital one and discover card, because those cards are the first two cards I got as an adult, so I can't just go "buh bye! you had your usefulness"

I do the same for my high APR cards by putting my Hulu, Netflilx and some small monthly expenses on these cards - just to keep them alive and keep my Util. low.
How do I sock drawer? I literally put in drawer.
Actually, closing Legacy Visa in week and half, rebuilder with 75 fee. I've grown beyond that.
Am working on my min 5k spend, so my fave cards will take a back burner, except for netflix and utilities that don't accept Amex.
Also, friendly reminder, no links to blogs nor commercial enterprise without previous express permission from mods, and only in signature. Just an FYI.

I tried to SD some store cards I had but I'm really iffy about having a bunch of cards open so I closed them. I ended up closing 3 capital one cards (1 was right after I got it in the mail) and 6 store cards. Now all the cards I have atr useful with good benefits. My UTI is currently at 18%, working on paying that down. But rather that than have a bunch of useless cards
I don't get it. Why did you even go through the hassle open 3 Cap-1 cards then close them upon receipt???? Does not make sense at all.
@Anonymous wrote:I was wondering how do you rotate your sock drawer cards to keep them alive?
I went on a spree and some of my cards are just not worth to use because they either don't have good benefits or my other cards have a better point system for travel, cash back, etc.
Do you let them sit for 6-122 months doing nothing - or do you buy gum/sodas at 7-11 to keep them on the radar?
Also, anyone have an opinion or experience with the following creditors CLOSING an account out of the blue for not using their cards - did you get notified or were you embarrased at the store finding out the card was dead???
1. Barclays?
2. Citi?
3. Amex?
4. Comenity?
5. Chase
Thanks.
I had an Amex card from 2006 (I cannot remember the product for the life of me, but it was a popular one at the time) that was just closed, suddenly, for no reason - no balance on it, no usage for over six months (there just wasn't anything I actually wanted and the CL was low). I only found out because I'd pulled an annual credit report for all 3 and it said "closed" and I was like, uhh...whoops.
I was pretty naive - I never applied for an Amex again until a couple of months ago because I truly thought I was blacklisted. Then I came here and learned better.
I don't know about any other company closing out of the blue, that's the only time it's happened to me.
I have a lot of SD'd cards, but I'm also rebuilding my profile and getting rid of a LOT of credit accounts that I don't use anymore. I have several - a Barclay's Barnes and Noble (very low CL that they refuse to raise + a membership fee which is nothing more than a fancy term for AF), a UMB credit card with an "okay" CL, a Dell Preferred Account (which I think they've closed since I last checked). I haven't used the Barclay's or the UMB for over 3 years now, but... they're still active, still open, dormant. I thought I'd use the Barclay's because of the B&N thing, but I just haven't, so those are going to be on the chopping block soon.

Welcome back to the Amex family.
For the record, my American Express Costco card just went into my sock drawer until 4/1/16 when Citibank takes over.
I PIF the whole balance and will put more effort into my Marriot Chase and Amex SPG.
May the dust bunnies keep Costo/Amex warm. lol
