I did a bunch of CC maneuvering yesterday. I have had my Amex Blue since 12/06 and I just converted it to a Clear.
You dog! How'd you do that? Everyone says you can't convert to Clear.
Or is it just crazy hard? And why'd you do it?

Re: How easy is it to switch from one kind of AMEX to another?
I think that he was probably internally qualified at AMEX for the Clear Card if he got a product change of that order. I was told just this week by AMEX what Cheddar said: "Generally, you can product change among any of the Blues (Blue, Blue Cash, Blue Sky), Hilton HHonors, Starwood, and Delta SkyMiles."
Re: How easy is it to switch from one kind of AMEX to another?
I've definitely, definitely seen at least one person on here say that they were told by AmEx that they COULD convert to Clear (this has formed part of my research on the subject of 'would I have a cat in Hades' chance of ever getting a Clear? without having to actually invite AmEx round to personally go through all my finances/personal information with a fine-toothed comb?')... I'm going to have to do some scouring of the forum and see if I can find those posts, now!
I SWEAR I've seen people say that (although I know I've also seen the 'AmEx told me you can't convert to Clear' posts, too, granted!)... bet I can't find 'em now!
Re: How easy is it to switch from one kind of AMEX to another?
I was able to convert my Amex Blue to an Amex Clear. I shot an e-mail asking if I could do that and I was eligable to do that. I just got my info packet about the Clear in the mail. It told me that I should be recieving my card in early August. I have only been a member for 11 months. It wouldn't hurt to log on to the Amex site and send them an e-mail asking about that. Or you could call them up. It never hurts to ask.

Looks like AmEx has made another change.
Congrats!

Re: How easy is it to switch from one kind of AMEX to another?
It just strikes me that Amex is a little fickle though. The said that I was eligleble for converting but not a CLI. They just told me that I had too many accounts with balances (just paid of 3 small ones) and that I had the inability to pay in full. I beginning to wonder on what gives with Amex.
Re: How easy is it to switch from one kind of AMEX to another?
Conventional wisdom is often wrong. This is yet another example of that. I,personally, wasn't aware that Blue was easier to get than clear. I logged in to do some online bill pay a few months back and saw the add for the Blue. I thought it sounded good so I apped and got it no problem. I was reviewing my statuses with various cardholders and perusing my point programs and decided that I may be better served with clear. When I came to doing the conversion it was a non-issue. The rep said she would happily do this for me immediately. It is now done and she said they may increase my credit line also.
Re: How easy is it to switch from one kind of AMEX to another?
So I decided to just call AMEX and get to the bottom of this. If you have a Skymiles, you can convert it to a Blue, Hilton or Starwood. If you have a Blue, you may convert it to a clear, however; this is after you have had some "history" established with the different levels. Makes sense?
