I had an Amex card YEARS ago. It was charged off, but I paid it last year. How long have you waited to apply and did you get approved? What score did you have? I think I'm going to apply after I'm back in the 700's, but really don't want the denial. I know they've let people back in with Amex after they've paid off the debt and raised their scores. Any advice and personal experience is appreciated!
I just got the green card with a 647. My first time with Amex just to get in the door. I dont see with your score why you wouldnt get it.
Can vary from person to person whether you are still blacklisted or not.. The only way to find out is to apply and they will either approval you or not. some people it is relatively short period of time say 5 years and others around 20 years if you burnt them. Did you ever pay them back, if so that will help, if not might not help your case as much
Does the Amex prequalify page show you anything?

He did mention he paid the chargeoff so he should have a good chance of getting back in. Unfortunately, because of the YMMV situation of the AMEX blacklist the only way to know is by applying. Fortunately, unless I'm mistaken, applying and getting a denial due to being blacklisted won't result in a HP on your credit report.
Once you pay them back you are off the blacklist.

Not sure if I 100% agree with this.. Although with that said I have never been on their blacklist. Just making an analogy if someone paid me back say 2 years after I had lent them money that was agreed to be paid a month or two or whatever later and it took them x years to pay it, I certainly would never lend them money again. There is a saying out there goes something like this.. "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me". Only burnt one lender which I paid back and they were very forgiving and that was Cap1, but no longer with them as ended that relationship on my part after the massive CLD of 20k, which I understood why they did due to very low useage and many other high CL cards.
I think the OP does have a decent chance to get back in with Amex, the only way they know is to apply if they are blacklisted still or not.
