Back when I started trying to build my credit one of my goals was to get the AmexCash Prefered card. I got my first two cards back in August/September, a Capital One Platinum card that finally got it's cli and a now closed walmart card for the free fico score. Previous to those the only thing on my report was my student loan starting back in 2007, which is still in good standing with no lates. Back in November my fico score was around 730 so I applied and got accepted for a Green Amex Card. Hoping I was on a role also applied for and recieved a Discover IT card @3k in early December.
Since then I've just been using and paying the cards off regularly just like I would my old debit card and my Discover card is reporting me back up at 729.
So at this point the only thing left is how long should I wait until I try to get the Amex blue preferred?
You might want to wait another month before applying for the BCP. AmEx will be introducing a new credit card on April 2, called the AmEx EveryDay card.
There is a very active thread discussing the new product, by people who are already examining and comparing the features with existing AmEx offerings.
So far, it looks like AmEx just might have a winner with this one - so it might be worth looking at, before you decide to pull the trigger on the BCP.
