How long to wait to ask for a CLI?

I recently obtained a Discover IT ($800) and a Chase Amazon Visa ($1200) ive heard the magic number with AMEX is 90 days, how long should i wait for the discover and chase cards? I was planning on about 4 months as id like to try and get an increase and have it report before i try for refinancing on my auto loan in may. Any suggestions?

Re: How long to wait to ask for a CLI?

Amex's magic number is 61 days after account opening.

Discover can be YMMV. There are people who get CLI a few months after opening the account, and some others that keep getting rejected even with almost a year. You can try when your account reaches 4 months, don't expect to get approved, but after 2--3 months you can always try again.

Requesting a CLI for Chase is almost always an HP. Don't think there is relevant magic number either.

With Disco, I have typically waited for 6 months before requesting CLI (if they have not automatically done so). They have been good to me.

Depends also on your spending habits. If you run through the cards a lot and PIF, odds are you will usually be granted a CLI sooner than others.

No harm in asking disco after your first statement cuts, then after every statement. That’s what I’ve been doing and I got my first cli 2 months in, then the next one 2 months after that and the next one was less than 2 months. It’s an SP so why not?

Re: How long to wait to ask for a CLI?

Just opened my email and saw an auto CLI from $10K to $13K.  Smiley Very Happy  Didn't even ask for it.

Re: How long to wait to ask for a CLI?

On discover.. I tend to think folks should wait until a few days after their third statement generates..... roughly three months and a couple days..

Discover sometimes gives an auto-CLI usually a few days after the third statement... if not.. its still a reasonably short time to start asking them for CLIs....  Yeah its SP but I do think that patience can pay off.. plus getting a bunch of Not enough experience with current CL letters is a bit wasteful... Know most of it is done with a computer but two day notices are looked at by a person.. and (this is an opinion) it looks desprate asking so frequently when you just got the card if someone manually looks at it....

After that, i was doing it monthly.... then every two months.. then every three months... and now its usually only every 6 months or if someone mentions it i might try......
