Re: How many applications with only one cc?

Since you are in the wonderful position of having high scores, or at least on EQ, and barely any credit, you can build it from scratch. This thread might help you think about what makes sense to add and what you can let go:

FICO High Achievers
* Credit is a wonderful servant, but a terrible master. * Who's the boss --you or your credit?

Well, I'm not sure whether it's a wonderful position, but I came to this country only 5½ years ago, so I had to start from scratch. Where I come from, you only get a credit card from your bank, so I handled it the same way here. You also always PIF; if you want real credit, you have to apply for a personal loan. I just learned that I have to handle things differently here.

Thanks for the link. I mostly just want to get set up nicely and not to be bothered by all this FICO business some time from now Smiley Wink.

Hmmm, well, DH is a pilot (human version), so when I say I'm putting something on autopilot, I mean that I set it up in such a way that it ought to be able to keep on behaving itself without continual tweaking.

If there's another version of autopilot, I would love to know what it is! Smiley Surprised Smiley Wink

As usual, I sometimes amuse myself and no one else. I have an off the wall sort of humor.Smiley Surprised
I was thinking of the person who said they would let the puter handle all auto pays (pif) and never have to check their cards or statements again.
I think more coffee is in order.

Ah, gotcha. Yep, I'm still scared by that autopay thing.

I've been doing a mental inventory, trying to remember who I've used the word with (mother, mother-in-law, minister), in case there was some incredibly dirty other meaning. Smiley Very Happy

Well, I still look at my statement, but at least the visa card from my bank is paid automatically. I would very much appreciate if I could do something similar with other credit cards.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I'm not sure that I'm up to gaming those credit unions.

I'm not sure what you meant by this but in general major banks seem to play more games with customers than cu's when it comes to their cc products.  The cu's mentioned in this thread have some of the most glowing customer reviews on this board.  Wish i had one!  gl with your decision.

Re: How many applications with only one cc?

Thanks. I'm not really going after that high CLs, as my income is not really high, which means my spending is also quite moderate. I wanted to have the Amex card, because it's the only one I can use at Costco, plus the gas and restaurant rewards looked okay. I hope the relationship won't end badly, given what I read here and elsewhere.

Anyway, I just got the approval for the Amex card. I will see my CL some time next week, I guess.
