I found this old comment:

Thoughts?

There's no generalizing, it's profile dependent. What works for one may cause immediate AA for another.

As others have said, it's going to be profile dependent.   Also consider what the quoted comment must really mean.  Presumably the poster hasn't had a huge number of auto CLIs, was it the case a) whenever usage exceeded 50% and the account was PIF, an auto-CLI happened.   Probably not.    More likely to mean b) The few times I got an auto CLI, I had been using 50+% of the CL (for how long, just previous cycle or more)....

which reduces it to a generalization based on very few data points.

Sometimes it’s automatically increase and sometimes you get eligible for apply CLI depending on your account history, age of accounts.

Frequent CLIs can also be an indication someone was approved with borderline credit.

If a lender likes someone's credit and income, it may just give an adequate CL in the first place.

Exactly.

The only two generalizations I'm comfortable making are the longer your history with the bank and the higher your income, the better your chances are at a CLI, assuming a clean, decently thick file and no excessive debt load.
