I've had it for a while but I don't use it as much as I used to. It was one of my earliest large limit cards but I have been trying to steer more towrds cash back cards now.
I'm definitely guilty of adding cards, simply to add cards which is something most people just shouldn't do. When it comes to income, I've been extremely fortunate. Because of that (and lessons learned from the past), I strictly use my cards as if they were debit cards, only the CCs earn me points and/or actual dollars. I tend to do mine in batches of 2 or 3 (mostly 2) every few months. The last few I've done 2 at a time, on the same day, like my recent 2nd Disco, and the NFCU MR Amex. I've added 10 new accounts in the last 14 or 15 months (yikes), 11 if you count my SP Amex BBC.... I've had a tendency of only going after the cards that really appeal to me, for example Amex was a big one because, well, I've always wanted to be in with Amex. Their SP approvals (once you're in)only make them even more appealing. I have all I need, so from here, I'm really going to pump the brakes and only go for cards that I like, or will really benefit me in some way monetarily. My focus now, is to get the 800+ scores. As of right now there's only two other cards I want to add, and I can wait (I think) a year or longer to add them. My problem has been that I get bored, lol, not good....at all, especially when you're hanging out in here and see all the shiny new approvals and CLIs. Just my 2¢
@JoeRockhead People who use credit cards as debit, will hardly need one so, when is it the right time to apply? It's ok to do it for the subs as you do, for collecting or relationship purposes. My credit cards at 25% apr are not for emergency, I have savings in place for that. I see myself needing credit in 10yrs from now when I'm off child support and won't need to live with my parents anymore.
I'm trying to keep it down to every 6 months or so. That would keep me under 5/24 indefinitely and allow me to jump on something when I feel like it. Realistically, I have everything I need. There are a few I still want, like a USB Cash+ and a 2nd Disco Cash Back. After that I'm just chasing the random SUB here and there or getting a little extra boost on a certain category.

🎶I like big Cards and I cannot lie
You other MyFicoers can't deny
That when a Card walks in with an itty bitty APR
And a round Chip in your face
You get Itch, want to Soft Pull up tough
'Cause you noticed that Credit Line was stuffed
Deep in the Mobile Wallet
I'm hooked and I can't stop tapping and paying
Oh baby, I wanna get approval'cha
And take your CLI🎶

"How often do you apply for new credit?"
As often as possible. 🤣🤣🤣
Not really, most of my apps are grouped. Before last month, it was maybe two a year for the last 2 years.
Last month I apped for three in a day.
Before the pandemic, I apped more frequently. Adding 10 to 15 new accounts a year.
I app when something peeks my interest and I can take advantage of 0% promotions and SUBs.
I've added four new accounts since Nov 2022. But I've also closed or let close the same amount of CCs.
I currently have over 100 accounts reporting open and closed on my CRs.
In 2014 I had maybe 5 accounts reporting on my CRs.
How long do I wait before applying? Not long enough. I'm 3/6, 6/12, and 16/24 right now and I have been denied for a few cards I'm still looking to get, so I know I just need to let everything age.
After the effects of my last couple app sprees wear off, I plan on applying every 3-6 months or so. Perhaps longer between apps as I acquire more cards, depending on what is out there.
@DakotaM You're not alone. Would you join me in my goal of gardening for 12 months? I know it's difficult, specially when you're prequalified for premium cards. But we know deep down it may be the best action for our scores.

Hah! Well that's the goal I am aiming for now, so sure 👍! I'm down for that! I'm not pre-approved for anything right now though, so you may be doing better than me in that regard.
