Perhaps their scores were good or even great when they applied. What we (you) don't know is if there scores are now in the toilet b/c their cards are nearly maxed-out!

A guy paid with an Amex Gold reward plus card, and I ran up to a friend of mine and was like. OMG, look. This card is soooo cool. It's an AmEx so it's hard to get and the rewards program for this card rocks. He looked at me like was insane. And whenever other people pay with credit cards, like discover, I think of great their score must be. How I wish I had their credit. It's like I'm jugding people based on what credit cards they have, lusting after some of their cards and scores. Oh well, someday I'll be able to get a prime card too!!!!!. Just thought I'd share.

Imagine how surprised you'll be when you figure out that the AMEX Gold Rewards card really isn't one of the *hard to get* AMEX cards.
Once you have an AMEX they try to push this card and the Delta Gold on you like a drug.
If I were going to be impressed with someone based on the cards they had Discover and PenFed would certainly be higher than AMEX on my list.
In fact I'd be more *impressed* with a BofA AMEX than an American Express AMEX, unless it's a Centurion as Tuscani mentioned - which I don't think I'll ever see outside of a picture online anyway.
American Express the company isn't as prestigious as people think as they have become much easier to get than in the past.
