Re: How should I go about Amex App

...... And please do not apply for any cards you do not want or need. I don't think the ED is that much harder if harder at all to get than the Delta.

You really need to know how your EX report looks for best results. When you were denid in July what were the reasons for denial? I was denied in July and 30 days later I applied again without much change to my CR and I was approved for the PRG and ED. I did apply for the PRG first and then immediately after the ED card. Amex is a mystery sometimes so I would say if it's the only thing you're trying to apply for in the near future, try again. I chose to apply for a charge card first because it's said to be easier to get approved for them. Once approved I knew I was in and said what the heck and luckily got my ED also.

As for the pre-approval site, I wasn't pre-approved for anything when I applied. You can see my scores down in my siggy. My EX was actually a tiny bit lower when I applied. I also have a couple of lates from 2010 on a student loan and my AAoA is less than yours. Also had about 3 "new" (less than 6 months) account with an income of 90k.

The reason for the denial as best as i can remember was primarily high utilization, AAOA, and there was one other reason but it was nothing major as i can recall.

My utilization has obviously gone down tremendously but I think i may just hold off until October or Novemmber when my Chase starts reporting and i know my total Util will be or at least should be barring any unexpected circumstances below 15%.

I will probably also just go straight for the ED if i find i have the will to hold off applying until late Fall.

My only other question is, if I do hold off until December and say my scores are all in the low700s, should I just app for the card i actually want?

It is a tough question.  I can't recommend app'g for a card you don't want.  Moreover, it seems to me American Express is pushing the ED/EDP cards.  They might have slightly lower requirements for the cards than they otherwise would have.  On the other hand, applying for a charge card may be easier to be approved for.  Plus if you are approved, you could immediately apply for the ED/EDP card you want.  There have been some reports that you will only have one HP if you do so.

I suspect, but don't know that if you had higher income, AE would be more lenient in approving you.  Income is one thing that is not included in your credit score.

Good Luck.
