Re: How to Build my Wife's Score?

OP,

AU cards might not start her credit file up.  In any case, don't apply for anything yet.

In a month or so, see if you can buy a credit report for her or use the free one.  You will know soon enough if she has a file.

As for free monitoring services, look at creditkarma.com (TU) and creditsesame (EX) for ongoing looks at her credit.

What do your three cards look like (age, payment history, utilization, limit, etc.)?

My wife (no SSN) just got approved for Amex SPG and Citi Hilton reserve. That's by just being AU on a few of my cards (11) months. 4500 in total credit with 0 stated income, so yea can be done if playing the game right. Add her to all you got, give it a few months and have her apply.

How did you get her a card without a SSN and 0 stated income? ITN?

Hi Crashem,

I have tried to get her free reports but none would work.  It's only  been a few weeks since I added her as AU with her SSN to my accounts so no surprise there.  I'll try again in 30 days and see what happens.

My three cards are as follows.  BofA 30+ years old, 28k limit.  Citi (a), 8 years old 28k limit.  Citi (b) 5 years old 20k limit.  Utilization is varies between 0-2%.  No lates.  I also added her as an AU to my Amex Bus Plat for future dating purposes.

Re: How to Build my Wife's Score?

On the note of whether to wait or not to open a secured card, I have a 0 credit score and got approved for two of them. So long as they have their money down, they should be happy. (BK and baddies can mess with that though)

Startome,

Thanks!  What did you get?

I don't want her to repeat my mistakes.  I'd like her to get her first card, secured or not, from a bank that has some nice cards for her to product change to down the road.  Otherwise she'll have some line reporting for 7 years and we know that over acheivers normally have about 7 total lines (open plus closed).

Thanks again,

CK
