ok so a good data point would be this. Has anyone combined them having an AU on the account>?

Sure, but as soon as my balance was zero on the card I wanted to keep it gave me that option. Again, this was my experience but obviously might be different for someone else.
Nope, identical to my experience. Not sure why the balance has any effect but I can probably guess its easier on them.
The AU cards are closed out on the account you will be losing in the merge. I don't know if they transfer tot he new card but I imagine you have that option.

Are you sure the account from October is over 6 months old? Just a thought but if you applied near the end of October and it took a week or so to come in and then a week or so to activate it may just be the card hasn't quite hit 6 months. If that's a possibility it will prob work any day now
It was opened at the beginning of the month.
