Hello All,
I have searched for an answer to this question here and on other credit forums. My question is if someone had debt discharged from one of the regular American Express Cards issued by American Express National Bank, formerly American Express Centurion Bank, does that prevent the person from getting an Amex Card from another bank like USAA, etc.?
I know there is supposedly an unconfirmed Amex blacklist for former cardmembers who had debt discharged from Amex National Bank, but has anyone on that alleged list tried to get an Amex card from a different bank?
I am just curious. Thank you for your help.
The AENB internal blacklist won't have any impacts if you were to apply with other institutions that offer AmEx network or branded cards, such as those from USAA, DSNB, Wells Fargo, etc. Just keep in mind that cards offered through Charles Schwab or Morgan Stanley, for instance, are issued by AENB.
Thank you for the information. I have gotten pre-approval offers from some of those banks. It's pretty easy and harmless to check to see if you are on 'the list.'
You get an immediate decline with no HP. It's nice that they don't do an HP. I have read that after 20 years, many people's names fall off the list, some even after 15. I guess it depends on the previous amount or account history.
Many thanks for the information.

It's not necessarily that long. I went to collections with AMEX in 2008-2009. Filed Chapter 13 in 2013. Paid AMEX 50% on the dollar through the Chapter 13. Blacklisted in early 2019. Got an AMEX card in early 2020.
Can't tell you what is the case for other people, but that's my data point.

Right. As long as you're on the "naughty" list there will be no HP, so that's a plus. The timeframe can really vary for everyone and can last as long as ~30 years in some cases. You'll just have to keep trying until you're off the list.
Yes.
Wells Fargo and NFCU are 2 examples.

You paid them back half and settled with them that's why you got back in fairly quickly. With Very good profile, a couple of years would've gotten someone in your case a way back in with them already.
DW also settled for quarter on the dollar and she got back in as well.
Now it's entirely different If Amex is burned for over $5K and not settled for even a penny, cuz then you're looking at 10-1000 years blacklist!
I burned them for $20K+ so I'm probably somewhere along the 50-100 year sentence!

I saw a post somewhere on one of the points guru websites that most people's names fall off after 20 years. I do not know if that is correct or not. It does sound like the more you owe, the longer the ban?
Thank you for all the replies.
