Re: Indentity Theft Victim!

I'm the first person to give someone the benefit of the doubt. But let me ask you this? If you just opened a CC account would you go $600 over the limit and not pay for 165 days. I think a person would only do that if they believed they could get away with it. Or they just don't care about there credit.  I think the later is more likely!

HI going...I'm so sorry you're going through this. This FTC site tells you the steps you need to take to protect yourself....reporting to the police is definitely one of the steps. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

Re: Indentity Theft Victim!

I have also been a victim of ID theft...

Please, follow up and file a police report.  Have the CC company send you a letter that this account is closed and that they will delete this account from the CBs.  You need everything in writing.

I would suggest putting a seven year extended FA on your file with all three bureaus.  The CBs will require a police report for the extended FA.  The FA adds a consumer stmt stating that your correct personal info has been used to open fraudulent accts, etc and that any creditor must call you at home or work to verify any new credit applications.  This will only have a minimal effect on your ability to open new accounts.  However, you cannot apply for instant credit (in store promotions).  I got my mortgage and two subsequent car loans with the extended FA.  Just takes a day or two longer as they WILL call you to verify the application.

I would also pull all three of your reports and look for anything else that may be there.  Look over the INQ carefully.

Best of luck.
