Is it possible to cancel an amex charge card and keep points from last statement cut?

I have a purchase I made on an amex charge card. My statement cuts in a week at which time I think my AF will post. I know there is normally a delay in points posting until the following cycle. Will I be able to receieve the points for this recent transaction before the 30 days to close out my card have passed?

Typically yes, as long as you have another MR earning card (which you do with your recent approval).

I'm not worried about having another Amex MR card. I have a couple of those so that isn't a concern. What I am wondering about is the amount of time it takes amex to give me the points from my spend and whether the points will post before I have to close out the card. Amex tends to be quite slow in crediting points from spend like a cycle behind.

I think if you close the card while those points are still pending, the points will be lost. I could be wrong but I think that's how it is.

my understanding is that as long as you have one MR earning card. Your points will be safe.

Amex treats MR as all one account so it shouldnt matter that the donor earning card is closed.

Why the hurry to close the card while points are pending?  Why not simply sock-drawer the card until all the points have posted, and then close it?

He mentioned in the original post that the AF is being charged at this time and the worry is having to pay the fee because the points will not have posted by the 30 day timeframe to get a full refund I'm assuming.

Have you asked them directly?

There might be a straight-forward solution.  If it were me, I would ask them via chat or phone.

I don't really want to flag my account at this point because I am still using up credits but can ask them when I call in. Some credit card companies tell you that you are not going to get pending points if you close the card. I have seen posts from several years ago where people indicated that since they had other amex cards opened that amex paid out the points even after the card had been closed. Hopefully that is still the case. In the end we are only talking about like 450 points or so but every little but helps.
