Is there any point in periodically applying for CLI's on accounts that I no longer use

Is there any point in periodically applying for CLI's on accounts that I no longer use, but don't want to close? I know if would help my utilization percent, but at this point I am only at 2% anyway, so is there any other benefit?

Really, there is no benefit except UT padding, and that is even if you get one. What could happen, IMO, by requesting a CLI on an inactive card could draw unwanted attention to it and perhaps garner a CLD, a fraud alert, or even closure. Just my 2cents.

No. Your utilization is already low, so there's nothing to gain by requesting unnecessary CLIs. Beyond that, as stated, it could trigger an account review and backfire on you. Since the accounts are seldom used, you could end up with a CLD. Best to just leave it alone if you don't have a real need for a CLI.

Not really. Personally I would just close them, but if you don’t want to do that, then just put a small charge on them every couple months and PIF. You’re more unlikely to get a CLI on an unused card anyway.

Re: Is there any point in periodically applying for CLI's on accounts that I no longer use

There could be a potential benefit, it would depend on a card

For me, I asked for CLI on a card I haven't been using, but plan to in the near future. In order to do what I want to do, I had to have that limit increased.

Also, some cards offer periodic BT offers, if yours is one of those, higher limit is preferred.

I guess it's a matter of personal preference and what you're doing or planning to do with your cards

Also, if your utilization is already in check, and you're not using CLI to mask a problem, there is nothing wrong with a little bit of padding.

You're exponentially more likely  to receive CLD/closure from utilization that's too high, new derogs or excessive apps (for some profiles) than from requesting CLI

Ask away
