Is this the right card?

Hello all!

I currently have the Discover It Chrome card and am looking to expand to a second card. Currently most of my spending goes towards dining, gas, and groceries.

I've been looking at the Capital One Savorone as an option. Would this be a good choice?

Looking for a no AF card. My current FICO8 scores are EX-729 EQU-730 TU-726

Re: Is this the right card?

The savorone is a great card that has no AF and covers dining/groceries as it's made with "foodies" in mind. It also has a decent SUB. It is missing your third category of gas however.

A couple other alternatives to look at are the Wells Fargo Autograph (3% on dining/gas, missing groceries), the Navy Federal More Rewards (if you qualify for NFCU, it hits gas/groceries/dining with 3% also with no AF), or even the Verizon Visa (if you use Verizon, this card gets 4% back on gas/groceries and 3% back on dining. Only thing is it's issued by Synchrony and the csdh back has to be used as a statement credit towards your phone bill). Hope those suggestions help!

Another option is the Redstone FCU Visa Signature.  It has 5% back on restaurants and gas and 3% back on a bunch of categories including groceries, discount stores, and utilities with a separate $7k spend cap on each category.  It has an ok sub of $150 back after spending $3,000, which is maybe a tad steep compared to some other no AF cards.

Re: Is this the right card?

Savor One would work for dining and groceries, it's a 1X card for gas.

If you were eligible for NFCU membership their More Rewards card is 3x on gas, on groceries, and on restaurants.

AMEX BCE will get you 3% on gas and groceries. 1x on dining.

Wells Fargo Autograph will get you 3% on gas and restaurants, 1X on groceries.

If you don't spend a lot on gas the Savor One wouldn't be a bad choice if you just wanted to add 1 card.

I appreciate all of the options and information! I would say gas and dining are bigger expenses compared to groceries.

The NFCU card seems appealing. Would I need an account with them to qualify for the card?

That seems like a desirable card, does it allow for the cash back to be used for statement credit/payment? Besides the SUB, it seems like a great card. Thanks for the information!

The Wells Fargo seems like a nice care, how are they as a card provider? I don't know much about them.

When it comes to NFCU, I have a lot of immediate family members who are military members but I myself am not current or former military. Would I still possibly be eligible?

If my dining expenses weren't so large/frequent, the AMEX BCE would be desirable.

Thank you for the information!

I don't believe you can redeem for statement credit; only a deposit into the savings or checking account with them.  That said, you can set up automatic monthly deposits of your cashback.

I gotcha, I'll have to look into them. Have never heard of 'em.

Re: Is this the right card?

If you have family members who are military and they have an account with NFCU, they can add you as a member yes. It is free and pretty effortless to become a member, especially if they're current mil.

NFCU has extremely generous credit lines and good customer service as additional perks. The only potential issue about the NFCU More Rewards is that it's serviced by AMEX, which isn't accepted as many places as Visa/Mastercard. I haven't had many issues with places taking my AMEX now, but definitely did in the past.
