Re: Is time for Target Card to go?

I just smashed the Target card teeth on the curb yesterday. I made the decision to sever any and all ties with the subprime world on my CR.

I don't need anything triggering unwanted flashbacks.

To be honest, Target Store card does not have much rewards to offer.

For every $1K you spend, you get a full day of shopping at 10% off.  That's actually pretty good.  The only catch is that your discounted purchases have to be charged to the card, which means you are basically limited to the amount of your CL.

So, to get the maximum value from the rewards, you need to spend $1K, and then on your "discount day", max out the card.  Assuming you did that:

With a $200 CL: $20 off per $1,200 in spending = 1.67% discount
With a $500 CL: $50 off per $1,500 in spending = 3.33% discount

Like all store cards, whether the rewards are useful or not depends on how much you spend at the store anyway.

Another catch is that 10% will expire if not used within a month. We got a 10% coupon one day (out of 3 years, we made it to 10 % once) and never got a chance to use it. It's not such a big deal for you lucky guys who are fortunate enough to live down the road from one, but for rural dwellers like myself (where the closest Target is a 45 minute drive) it's not that great a deal.

If the 10% wasn't within a timeframe I would like the deal so much better. But it's better than Wal-Mart. Smiley Very Happy

Edit: Apparently I need to learn this forums mark ups. :/

How much do you use the card. I am willing to bet that your high usage and payment history were big factors in you receiving upgrade with a decent limit. Usually they only hit customers of with a 1000 dollar limit with the Target Visa upgrade.

Re: Is time for Target Card to go?

I LOVE my Target Visa, and yes it is in heavy rotation, mostly run up/PIF, rinse, lather, repeat....I just put my last New Orleans trip on it and am paying half of it off end of March and the other half in April....but I use it heavily for my kids' clothes, toys, birthdays, etc....so I guess thats why the love me....I find it very easy to get a new 10% card about every 6-8 weeks....I know, Im bad!!!!
