It’s Time, Need Advice for Amex CLI

Greeting to all. It has been exactly 6 months since my last Amex CLI. I have 2 Amex cards a Blue Preferred Cash with a $24.5K limit which is my highest CL, and an Every Day cash card with $2k limit. I want to make a move and asks for a CLI.

Should I ask for a 3x CLI on the BPC card for a nice big line, or be more conservative and go for 3x on the ED card. My current income is ~$180k. I am leaning towards going for broke and asking for $74k. I filled out a 4506T last year with no issues when they moved me from $8k to $24k. The BPC card is the most used card in my wallet by far.

Thanks in advance for the responses. Have a great day!

Since a 4506-T doesn't bother you, go for it!

Exactly. All they can do is say no. They just want to know you can pay it back. But they will not give you 3 times of a 24k limit. even if your income 500k because of the time you have been with Amex. I would say if anything try and get the other card increased to 6k and be happy. or mostly go for 35k with the Amex.

Thanks for the responses, I have had the Amex cards for just over a year, app'd at the same time and got a dual approval. I marked the 6 month mark on my calendar from my last CLI to remind myself to apply for some Luv. I keep my utilization under 10%. I just wanted to see if it was worth going big or should I wait longer.

Re: It’s Time, Need Advice for Amex CLI

It's all up to you.  Which CLI would be of more use to you?  No sense in being more conservative.  If you qualify for less than requested they will counteroffer.  If they deny then you didn't qualify for anything.  This and much, much more is covered in the 3x CLI Guide so read it if you have not already.

That said, 3x on 24K is probably unlikely.

The limit you qualify for will depend primarly on what your credit profile and income qualify for -- same as with any creditor.  It's not just about time.  It's not just about revolving utilization.  Are you expecting significant improvements to your credit profile from waiting?

Re: It’s Time, Need Advice for Amex CLI

I don't expect any significant changes in my scores if I wait, I have no derog credit, but my AAoA is only 24 months so I am sure that is hurting my climb. I have read the the Amex 3x guide several times, I am doing this more for the sport of raising my available credit. I have gotten great advice using these boards and recommend it to anybody feeling lost in the credit world like I was before I joined myFICO 3B and the community.

I had read that obscenly high limits were given using the 3x guide and that was my reason for the post. I have only had the card just over a year and very happy with the service. Again, it's not necessary I do this at all. I am fortunate that I can consider this just for the sport of it.

     Thanks again for the response.
