Journey to Quicksilver

After reading numerous threads on here about product changes, I thought I would give it a go with one of my own. I got the Capital One Journey for Students Visa Card last April, and last night, I talked to a couple Application Specialists via the Capital One website chat. I was hoping to convert my card to the VentureOne card because I'm starting to travel more and incur bigger expenses, but with a few verification questions, I was pretty quickly approved for an upgrade to the Quicksilver card. Easy process with the specialists! All the terms pretty much stay the same (still no annual fee, same APR, etc.); the only difference is in the rewards system from a max of 1.25% cashback to 1.5% full cashback. Not much of a change, but I think getting out of that student credit card zone after only a few months is a big step up. Hoping to get that limit increased within the next couple of months and to lower my rates shortly after. Wish me luck!

As for getting that VentureOne card, do you think I should just look to upgrade my Quicksilver sometime next year, or just complete a whole new credit card application?

Any and all feedback is much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Congrats on the Upgrade. If you can handle the Hard Inquiry, go for it. Venture One has no foreign transactions fees, but that could be the same for Quicksilver also. A win win

I just got the Quicksilver and can confirm it has no foreign transaction fees as well.

Re: Journey to Quicksilver

I went from Journey to QS too last month. Was super easy. Go to Accounts>Modify Your Features>Your Features> and a button to upgrade to QS was there. Was super quick and easy, no HP was needed to upgrade if you see that button there.

A few months before, it said "We're Sorry. No offers are currently available for this account.  It's possible that your account status has changed or that you have made changes to this account. We periodically update offers to this account, so please check back another time.  Thanks for being a Capital One cardholder!"

Just give it time and be a good customer with them, and it should show up! If it never does, some extra work (like what the OP did) might be required (which could result in a HP).

As for your question, I think you should keep your QS and send out a new app for Venture One.

Venture One?    There is NO advantage of the Venture One over the Quicksilver.   Do you mean the Venture?  That has an AF but gives 2 points per $.

Actually, on my end at the time of the upgrade, I had no available offers on my account. I was just personally told by one of the application specialists that my account was eligible for the upgrade, and once I requested it, he processed and approved it. Guess I was just lucky!

Really? I could've sworn VentureOne had better value? Oh well, I guess I must've done something wrong in my point valuation calculations.

If I recall correctly, I believe it's the other way around. VentureOne gives 1.25 points per dollar (basically 1.25%) and Venture gives 2 points/2%, but has an annual fee of 59 dollars. I don't think the annual fee would justify the low points earned, in my humble opinion. Out of all of CapOne's cards, I think the Quicksilver gives back the best-1.5% cash back with no annual fee, so, I think you did good, Credit_Dominion! Smiley Happy

The CapOne online chat is really helpful and the customer service is great! Journey, my first card, has only been open for three months. A couple days ago, for fun, I decided to see if they would actually give me a PC to Quicksilver. Didn't have my hopes up since I didn't have any offers and not much history, but in the end, I got it! So, congratulations fellow upgrade-ee, lol. Smiley Very Happy

Oh, I wasn't promoting the Venture particularly, but I believe that Venture One, which gives 1.25% (as you say) is always inferior to the Quicksilver, which gives 1.5%  (since Venture/Venture One "miles" are just cashback anyway).

Oh! I didn't mean to give the impression that I thought you were promoting it, lol! I was just pointing out the details of both and hoping the OP could see that, yes, out of all of CapOne's cards, the Quicksilver is indeed the best option, both for cash back and its lack of annual fee.
