Kohl's Card Pre-Qualified

I have a question about getting more retail cards . I have a Fingerhut Card as a retail card that is only 3 months old yet I can't find anything at a decent price and on top of it the shipping charges are ridiculous .

The only positive data points for Fingerhut cards is there no annual fee and frequent cli's .

So I went to the Kohl's website just to see if they had a pre-qualify credit check and the do.

I was pre-approval yet I have not applied because I don't want to have too many retail cards .

The negative thing is small starting limits:

The only positive thing with the Kohl's Card is that I would more likely use the card because of there prices and discounts given to card holders . It helps that they have several locations nearby ...

It's hard to garden win you have your mind on getting the cards you really want.

Re: Kohl's Card Pre-Qualified

I'm not quite sure what your goal is, although I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having the goal of more store cards.

Now, if there's a store card out there that suits your spend, that's a different story.  My only store card is Lowe's, simply because I'm a home owner and always in there buying stuff anyway.  The 5% off everything made sense for me.  With respect to Kohl's, you'd have to evaluate your spend there to determine if it's "worth it" to you over using a different card there that you already have.

Re: Kohl's Card Pre-Qualified

I will practice patience this time. I have 30 days to apply...
I just wanted to build my overall utilization.
In a week I will feel more comfortable applying for the Quicksilver. Scores will be with only 1% utilization.

Re: Kohl's Card Pre-Qualified

If Kohls is already somewhere you shop, then go for it. It could be worth it, but it sounds like you're mostly looking for a card, and trying to figure out how to use it after. That's sort of the opposite of what should be done. But hey, I get it. We've all done similarly at least once.

If your scores and cards in your sig are up to date, I'd just let things sit and grow for a bit unless there's a card that fits you (nice score increase btw!). With your listed cards the starting limit isn't usually very high. If that's the case, I wouldn't even be overly concerned about utilization just yet. Just keep it reasonable and PiF. I can't think of many, if any, times i've heard of credit card companies start sweaiting someone using $300 of a $500 limit when they PiF each month. It's almost to be expected. Just keep the combined reported balances reasonable, and get them back down a few months before making new apps.

The thing about store cards is that the offers will always be there. They try to get you with limited time prequals, or "apply today, and save X". Then next week they say the same thing. If you do the same prequal on that Kohls card three months from now, I can almost gaurantee it will still be there, but maybe with a better starting limit. So, unless you really have a use for it, maybe just screenshot the offer, and compare it to what they offer you in about 6 months.

EDIT- I would wait more than a week on the quicksilver. Scores don't update in real time, so you may need to wait a few days/weeks after your next billing cycle to see any impact on your reports.

Hi OP

It's best to develop this mindset: It's hard to get the cards you really want, if you don't garden.

Believe me, gardening WORKS.

Re: Kohl's Card Pre-Qualified

Thanks, thats great advise .

So far the scores have been going up because of the seeds that have been laid so maybe gardening will be the best for now.

Really the only card I wanted was Discover so creating a relationship with them now while gardening going forward will help me in the future.
