Some lenders might send cancellation notices after mere months (I once got a letter stating my FNBO China Airlines card hadn't been used in 4 months and would be closed if not used soon) and some may take a decade.
Hi @K-in-Boston Is FNBO in general would like their cards to be used or is it particularly about FNBO China Airlines card? I have FNBO Getaway card and I am hoping to use it as a daily driver for next few months. I want to be sure in general FNBO is picky on all their cards or just the card you mentioned.
@Red1Blue, as K-i-B mentioned upthread, this can apply to all their various products. I currently have 5, but when I had more (prior to consolidating a few), that was the recurring theme. So, if you don't want to risk any FNBO account closures for inactivity, use them periodically.
It does not take very much spend and only need's to be every few months.
I put 8 to 12 dollars on an FNBO card every 3 months and it has been alive with that small spend for the last 2+ years.

Given previous experience with Amex, I was also surprised to just get a similar message about my Blue Cash (OBC). I have other Amex cards, one I have used in the last two months or so which used to be enough. Now, based on a whole two DPs, it seems Amex might want usage on all non-AF cards.....
Weird. I just double-checked for any similar communication on my Blue card and couldn't find any. I'm in no rush to close it as it's been open 20 years. Apparently I used it much more "recently" than I thought. Looks like I did a $50 Amazon reload 4 years and 1 month ago after not using it for 2 years before that. Must be a YMMV thing.
Finally a thread I can reply to, Target Red Store Card by TD Bank. They shut my account down after not spending for about 6 months.
Not a bad idea. Thanks

I have a few cards I use based on their points and the rest are in the sock drawer. I just don't want to have them in there for months and then find out they got canceled .
You can call each bank (number on back of card) and ask; they'll tell you, at least in my experience, exactly what their 'close for inactivity' time limit is.
I keep track of when each card was last active, and make sure I use them at least once a year. That's worked great! There's no need for more frequent charges unless you really want to make them anyway.

Imo, csr from each lender will most likely give different answers as they usually are not on the same page even in their own company. Just read all the threads where people complain about conflicting advice given by a csr. In todays lending environment id say at least every 6 months but know thy lender. Some are quick to pull trigger while others are just happy you are a customer willing to risk chewing a piece of gum

I can tell you from DW's experience that Comenity is SERIOUSLY sensitive to non-use. She had SIX of their store cards closed for non-use after only six months of being dormant.
For data point sake, I'll throw in that nothing in her credit profile changed a lick prior to that point. She simply lost track of the calendar and to the chopping block those cards went.
Barclays is one that will occasionally (but highly YMMV) close cards for inactivity despite an annual fee. They will sometimes (but not always) send a "use it or lose it" warning letter first.
Barclays should just get it over with and change their company name to YMMV.
Synchrony (at least when they were still GE Money Bank) seemed to have not been bothered too much. I had an account finally closed after 5 years of inactivity and player 2 had an account that was closed after 10 years of inactivity. I know others have had shorter time frames with Barclaycard, but player 2 just had a Ring card finally closed after 18 months of inactivity. NASA FCU seems to also not be concerned; she recently called to close her card there that they still hadn't closed after it was dormant for 6 years.
I have a Overstock card picked up via the SCT 4+ years ago, I made 1 purchase when I initially got it and sock drawered ever since. They haven't bothered me about and honestly I have no use for it so if they close it oh well.
