So I rechecked last night and sure enough the warning is back...
I have enough credit unions I joined for a credit card that I can just setup an empty account with a monthly deposit big enough to cover the bill and even continue to get some cashback on debit card use. Fairly low exposure on an account that essentially has no money in it.
I completely agree. It is not ideal, but it's better than nothing and very low risk if someone does what you and I intend to do.
One DP for what it's worth. My June T-mobile bill just arrived, I have set up autopay from checking to keep this discount. I just paid the bill with a Cash Plus, and I didn't get a warning that this would invalidate the discount. So, for now, it works.
It worked for just a few months with Verizon, let's see if T-mobile goes the same way.

@Anonymous
Did you pay the entire bill or did you leave a couple of $$$ left on the autopay from your checking account?
I have not changed my payment source yet and I received my June bill also which shows the same discounted amount with a payment date of 6/22.
I have not received anything telling me of the new change other than the pop-up last month on the T-mobile app which disappeared after a couple of days. Anyone receive anything other than the pop-up informing of the no discount for CC autopay?

OK I just tried it too. Although I have set up debit card for automatic payment, I paid the discounted balance by credit card today.

There is a potential workaround mentioned in the article, but that requires manually pushing payments AND keeping your debit/bank info on file with a company who has data breaches twice a year.
Hopefully they get some bad PR & pushback to nip this in the bud before it spreads
Is this going applied for new users as I still have autopay via a credit card and it is June.
Is there a thread on MF somewhere for us VZW peeps going through this autopay drama? When I search the forum it comes up with everything about the SYNC Bank Verizon CC not about autopay workarounds such as this thread.

Not MF, but for example this article: How To Get $10 Verizon Discount & Still Pay With A Credit Card (milestomemories.com)
This is May 2019, advocating paying the bill with a CC before the autopay is charged, "to get the best of both worlds" You see some people reporting problems right away, and by September Verizon Wireless FAQ states:
T-mobile may or may not do the same, but if the whole point is for the company to cut down on cc fees, and enough people continue to prepay, then.....!
@Anonymous Thanks, you rock. I searched and searched and found alot of good info just not that.
This change actually had me looking at other providers/plans and realized that I might have been overpaying a bit for my current service even with the AutoPay discount.

Went with Google Fi, needed a new phone anyway and they had a pretty sweet deal for switching.
