MACYS Red Star Rewards Visa upgrade question

After congratulating me for being a loyal customer, MACYS is offering me an upgrade to their visa. I read the terms and conditions but it's not clear to me if accepting this offer will result in a hard inquiry. Has anyone accepted this type of offer?

Don't know the answer to your question, but congrats on the promotion (if you want it, that is).

Re: MACYS Red Star Rewards Visa upgrade question

Thanks! I want it because Ii think I've earned it after having two of their cards for almost 18 years. I just don't want another hard inquiry.

From what I've read on here, it WOULD be a hard inq to apply for their Visa.

Might want to do a quick search on here for past threads about Macy's Visa to confirm that, though, before you decide.

Re: MACYS Red Star Rewards Visa upgrade question

I believe it IS a hard pull. The Macy's Visa is a separate trade line - so you will have a store card AND a Visa.

Re: MACYS Red Star Rewards Visa upgrade question

I called today and the CSR assured me that since it's an offer for an upgrade to an existing account and not an applicaiton for new credit, it will not be a hard pull. I remember Haulingthescoreup said to ask if the call was being recorded and to specifically ask if there will be NO hard pull. I asked her three times and she said no. We'll see. The store card and the VISA will be one card but will have two statements.

Re: UPDATE - MACYS Red Star Rewards Visa upgrade question

I just spoke to a CSR in the new accounts department and she informed me that there is no hard pull when accepting the upgrade invitation for the Rewards VISA. She also said that although I will have one card, I will have two separate credit lines with separate CLs (the visa CL will be considerably higher).

Interesting -- My mom has the visa/store and her Visa limit is 3k, while her store limit is 4.6k.  The store card will report as MACYS/DSNB and the Visa as VISA/DSNB.

It seems like there is a hard inq when you request the upgrade, rather than being offered the upgrade.

That's my understanding. I asked several times about the inquiry. She said the visa rewards upgrade approval was based on my credit history with them. My Macy's CL is 2700. She suspects I will receive a 4k or 5k visa limit. I haven't received the "official" approval yet so I'll submit an update if anything changes.

Re: UPDATE - MACYS Red Star Rewards Visa upgrade question

Update - I was approved for 6k CL on the visa upgrade. Since it was a pre-approved offer, it was a soft pull.
