Okay, so I applied a little over a month ago for a Macy's card, at a check out at the store. I was approved and bought my items that day but didn't get a CL from the salesperson. So a month passes and I still haven't gotten my card. So I call the 1-800 number I googled and they tell me that the "system was down" the day I applied and a card was never sent to me. So about a week later, I get a card. Then I notice it's a Visa. Still no CL on the paperwork. And it expires in 2 months. I call to activate and the guy tells me that I was approved for the Macy Visa (thought I was just getting a store card) for $5000! Whoa! Big CL increase from all other cards. At the time of applying my CS was about 720. Does this mean I can use this card anywhere Visa is accepted???
So ONLY after reading on here, do I see that the reason it expires in two months is because they are switching to AMEX. True? So are they going to automatically switch me over? Or will they re-evaluate me? I'm a little concerned because my Lowe's CC acct increased and my new house hit my CR, dropping my score to 690-ish. It'll come up by December, when I have some time to pay off the Lowe's. Also, I don't see the Macy's Visa reporting $5000 on my CR which would look REALLY good. lol
When you get the Macy's Visa, you actually have 2 credit lines. 1. The store revolving line which will only report to your credit as high balance, not CL. 2. the visa which will report to your credit report with CL but it reports under Visa something rather, it doesn't say Macy's so it might be there and your just not noticing it because it's under different name.
You will automatically get converted to the Amex card.
That is a pretty great opening CL also, I would call in and find out what your store line is though, probably somewhere in the 2-3k if your visa is 5.

Yes
The store Macy's will report as MCYDSNB and will show no credit limit. The Visa is a separate TL which show as VISDSNB and will show your Visa limit. The Visa does not report to TU. Your store and Visa limits are seperate and have their own internal account numbers. When you receive the Amex version it will be the same setup with a different card account number. It's one of the very few co-branded bank cards that work this way.
For reference, here is how this tradeline appears on each of my reports.
