Go for it
Recurring charges work for me: NetFlix, cell phone, Wi-Fi, etc.

Amazon is a good one. If you use Amazon. Auto refill the gift card.

I thought maybe they were into farm animal colostomies. Glad we cleared that up.

Also electric/gas companies are often a good choice - even if you don't owe them anything, they'll typically be happy to take your overpayment and apply it to future balances. Any time I have to charge something to a card for SUBs or just to keep some activity on them, my electric company is my go-to.
My only issue with Amazon gift card reloads is that whenever I see the gift card balance on my amazon account, I just can't help myself and end up buying stuff I didn't really need
I use my cards once a month for at least one charge. That's not necessary, but I'm "over-insured" in that respect, and I've never had one closed for not enough use.
That's what I'm doing. I'm going to put a small charge on each card and then turn it upside down in my wallet so I remember I used it. I'll flip them back over on the first of the month.

Since the electric and gas utility in Boston charges a $2.25 fee for each $600 increment of payments, I often pay $600 at a time for gas and electric bills.
