How does the above scenario by the OP affect his credit score?
I currently have 3 credit cards under Chase. Their respective credit lines are $2000, $3000, and $5000 so it looks like my overall credit line is $10K. I have not used the first credit card (the $2000 one) in the last 18 months because the rewards are no longer worthwhile, so I figure there's no need keeping this card around.
Will there be any negative repercussions to my credit score if I called Chase to close this first card AND moved the $2000 over to either my second or third card? Based on my rudimentary understanding of credit bureaus, I'm led to believe that since my overall credit line remains the same at $10K, there is no negative impact. I'd be simply shuffling the cards around.
