Hi, so I started my credit with my ITIN number when I turned 18, and now around 8 months later, I now have a SSN. I have decent credit with my Ficos ranging from 690 EQ to 708TU, Experian unknown bc of ITIN. I was thinking about not getting my current file updated instead starting a new file due to being very far locked out of Chase 5/24 with no Chase cards (Chase wouldn't approve me for anything, So I went with Amex with the BCE around 3 months mark after being 18). And I have a lot of inquires which I racked up because I had little knowledge of credit at the begining and it was very very hard to check my credit due to having an ITIN so I didn't know it was affecting it. Anyways, I was planning on adding myself as an AU on my other cards (with my SSN) then applying for some Chase cards first then move my Amex over, by either calling them and updating my ITIN to SSN or informing EQ, TU, and EX. Does anyone have experience with this? Does it seem possible? Thanks!
Technically you can't have an active ITIN and an SSN at the same time. Once you have an SSN, you are supposed to contact the IRS and have them rescind the ITIN (if they haven't done so already). As far as credit scores and files are concerned, once your ITIN has been rescinded you'll need to request that your accounts and entire credit history be transferred to the SSN. With that being said, attempting to use both simultaneously is most likely going to cause you some issues, if not now, somewhere in the not too distant future, not the least of which could be your accounts/identity being flagged for possible fraud and having to go through all the motions and aggravation to prove you are the same person.
As far as adding yourself as an AU, this will do nothing for the SSN you, as far as getting approved with an issuer is concerned, and again, if they catch on to what you are doing, you risk some sort of adverse action, including possibly being blacklisted. My advice would be to rescind your ITIN, transfer your accounts and credit history to your SSN and continue to build your credit as you have been. Better things will come your way before too long. Just my 2¢
@xaneater Update your bank/credit union and all your creditors with the SSN. If you pull your credit report at some point in time in the future with ssn your ITIN accounts will not show on the report
Question what if you just rescend the itin.
Start with a new ssn saying you never had a itin? Is this at all possible or way to off

Rhetorically:
a) You did have an ITIN
b) You are dealing with stuff (ITIN/SSN) issued by the federal government
c) you will have to attest on forms that you are telling the truth.
Is this still a good idea?
Thank you for the reply.
