Re: Multiple Capital One Accounts Into One?

Did you ever apply for the card and if so what was the outcome? Maybe if you threaten them they will change, but I really doubt it. They told me they are "conservative".

Re: Multiple Capital One Accounts Into One?

Apply as Average Credit.  Select the No Hassle Cash Rewards card.  Their order goes:  Top: No Hassle Cash Rewards  Middle: Classic Platinum  Bottom: Standard Platinum.  Internally, if you're not approved for a Rewards, they down-sell you on the next card down -- Classic Platinum and so forth.  So, just like ocboy949 said, Go For the Rewards.

Re: Multiple Capital One Accounts Into One?

So I was thinking of just applying for the Cash Rewards one but I just wanted to confirm that its possible to transfer some balance from my current Capital One card to this new one...Not just another company's card balance to a Capital One card...

anyone know if thats possible for sure?

I want to have the option to spread out my balance over two cards so it will lower my utilization and it looks like this card would have a lower APR on that balance that I transfer than the old one I have. (29.40%...ridiculous)

Re: Multiple Capital One Accounts Into One?

I had a feeling that would be the case...

Oh well, I suppose it still would increase my utilization ratio overall.

If i was to get rid of this card in 6-12 months assuming i can get approved for a REAL prime card by that time that i actually want, is the AAoA going to be hit really hard or not really since it wouldnt be too old of an account and i dont really have too ling of a history to begin with? (about 3 years 7 months)

Re: Multiple Capital One Accounts Into One?

So heres what happened...

Pre-Approved for card. I have a 659 Credit Karma score...as if that means anything, but still...its gone up for the 400's...so i know there has been major progress regardless.

Medium utilization on my only other credit card account.

I've been down to zero hard inquiries for over a year now.

REJECTED. I'll get the answer why in 7-10 days apparently...wonder what BS they will come up with...

Anyone know if you can have them manually reconsider or something? Perhaps for the vanilla platinum card as opposed to this rewards one that i tried for since i was pre-approved for it also?

They didnt try to down sell me for the Standard or Classic Platinum card either...so i dono if i missed something or if im not approved for those ones either now?

God this is so depressing...especially when you're beginning to be pre-approved again at multiple places after so long of being denied by all...its like a mirage or something.

Re: Multiple Capital One Accounts Into One?

Shane, I also mentioned this on CreditKarma for both the Classic & Rewards Platinum cards... contact Capital One's Personal Account Specialists department directly at 877-513-9959.  They're the ones that assign offers, upgrades, and down sell to accounts.  Just let them know that you just applied so it's still new.  If you wait until you receive the letter in the mail, then you'll have to wait 45 days to re-apply.  Number one that I tell everyone, BE COURTEOUS!!!  Speak soft and say Happy Holidays and all that jazz.  Let them know you were interested in their Classic Platinum card and look forward to being a Capital One customer, etc.

Re: Multiple Capital One Accounts Into One?

Thanks for the help Jay.

That sounds worth a try, but I was just wondering if i should not mention im already a capital one card holder or not? I dont know if this would be viewed as good for bad? Is there anything to avoid mentioning or saying?

Also, how should i go about phrasing it? Something like this...?

"Hi, I just applied for the No Hassle Cash Rewards card last night, that I was pre-approved for online, and I actually ended up being declined. I was reading around online and I saw that I may actually have technically been 'approved' for the Classic or Standard Platinum card but I'd need to call Capital One to have them check and see. So I was just wondering if you could confirm this for me?"

Lemme know what to say, im not a terribly smooth talker on the phone to credit card companies and the like. haha

Re: Multiple Capital One Accounts Into One?

I couldn't have phrased it better myself... that's perfect!  If you get any static from the first person, just ask for a Senior Account Specialist (Executive Account Specialist or Escalation Account Specialist -- same difference).  You might want to say you heard it from other Capital One associates rather than online because if you call just the generic customer service number on the back of the card, they will only try to give you as much information as they know... not much which is why they transfer you to the Applications department.  The number I provided in the prior post is for those Account Specialists who have the ability to approve.  Only if asked, would you have to mention that you're an existing customer.  Once they verify your info, they'll know already.
